I am new and what is this?

We're not such a bad bunch. Why, just this morning one of our friendly types said to me, "Shut the fuck up, asshole." He was even nice enough to use the more polite acronym.

Shut up asshole. Just kidding. I don't even know you. The GB can be strange.

I thought this was a forum for erotic literature. I come here, find the general thread, and instead of anything relating to literature or erotica I find racism and political radicalism.

I'm a proud erotica reader and member of the sex-positive community, but this is an embarrassment. Where does this come from?

Whichever forum on Literotica you go to, including the Authors' Hangout, which is perhaps the forum you were thinking of, you will find assholes.

Why? Because this site believes in Free Speech. Most of us are here under pseudonyms and we can and do say whatever we like. Unfortunately that means that unpleasant opinions can be expressed frequently. Debate becomes argument and name-calling, and entrenched views are never changed, just shouted louder.

But the Forums also have many helpful and friendly people. You have to do several things:

1. Choose which threads to look at,
2. Use the ignore function for a few people,
3. Don't try to educate the assholes,
4. Avoid arguing with those who will never change their views, and
5. Treat this place as something to enjoy, even if it is just watching the animals in the zoo interacting with each other, flinging monkey poop.

Why must noobs make threads announcing their existence??

Because on many discussion boards that is the polite thing to do.

But they would be better advised to lurk for a week or so, watching the action and making their own judgements, before announcing their existence.

They should mainly keep stumm, respecting their betters, until such time as they can prove themselves entertaining or informative.

I'm sure this has already been said, but - this is the General Board. The description for the General Board specifically states "Want to talk about something not covered anywhere else? Try this board!"

If you look to the side of each forum, you'll see they all have descriptions next to them. Neat, eh?

Reading is fun-damental! :rose:

wait, who is proud of reading erotica? is that something someone should actually be proud of? hell, is it even possible?

It's like this. Even the nicest house still needs a toilet, for all the shit to go, right? Otherwise, you'd have shit in the nice parts of the house. This is the toilet of Literotica.

No, you are, except you take deposits. If the GB shit ever stops youll starve.

I  snark in the morning.

because some jerkface made the character limit on descriptions too goddamned short, so you can't really put anything meaningful there anyway.

yeah, i said it.

jerkface.

I know what you're saying. That said, the point of the description field is not to summarize the entire plot arc, but to entice readers to check out your story, make it stand out above all possible stories they could read. Think of it like a movie tagline. Those are never long. They're concise and built to 1) communicate what type of movie it is, and 2) arouse curiosity/interest in the audience.

Jerkface back atcha. :rose:

I think the entertaining or informative standard has long been relaxed.

Or outright abandoned.

That's right, you're new.

Now shut the fuck up and learn your place.

Your opinions are not wanted or needed.

There use to be a welcome committee that helped to set the low standards of expectation. Now it's gone. Change does happen!

The OP has become silent. I wonder why? Actually I don't wonder. Logic can be a bitch.

Maybe it found the pen pal it was longing for.

Full disclosure: I'm looking for a female partner. I'm not down for Skype, phone sex, texting, yahoo, etc. I'm just looking for an email penpal.

Somewhere in the universe now sits a toothless female (code name Austin) with a hairy face, long boobs and bed sores, happily waiting for the next email from her new pen pal.
