After raising children, most parents see the next blessed event as the birth of grandchildren. Lots of the new parents even get married. But, if you don't have a grandchild yet, all you can hope for is to dogsit the grandpuppy.

Talk about seperation anxiety. My lovely daughter, who is so very sane, falls apart whenever she thinks about leaving Barney ( this is her 95 pound spoiled rotten, lovable 6 y/o golden retriever) with anyone She takes the dog everywhere with her, just like I did with my dog when the kids were growing up. Her fiance' passed the Barney test, early on, unlike her other suitors.

So here I sit with a nuerotic dog on the sofa next to me. (he's whining and I can't undertand him. I think he wants me to repaint his bedroom). This sweet animal has taught my daughter more about love and responsibilty than 500 books about life. I think that my daughter, who swore that she would never have children, will be a superb mother. I also believe it will easier to leave her children with me than it is for Barney. After all, "the Perfect dog", ie Barney, is her first baby.

Wow! :) I thought I was the only freak who gave a humaness to animals! ;) When my ex and I were together, we had gotten a puppy. Sometimes we'd take him with us to my parents' house when we'd do laundry. My parents have a dog too (who is my brother, BTW...lol), and whenever we'd get ready to leave, I'd ask my dog, "Do you want to go to uncle Toby's house?" Naturally, my dog would wag his tail and bark happily. lol He loved being in contact with any other dog, and loved going to my parents' house. :)

Ole Barney just let out a moan that...

would make a professional whiner proud. You would think that he really misses his "Mommy'. And she misses him. I know, she called once and I have called her twice to tell her that Barney is okay. Its wonderful to be loved, isn't it??

Goldens Goldens Goldens

The worlds most expressive and dramatic dog. God I love them. I have two.... the boys.

I believe the word you were searching for Tiggs and Blue is anthropomorphic.

Speaking of grandpuppies...

My grandma used to call Toby (my parents' dog) her granddog or grandpup. :)

"Mommy's little angel" is asleep, now.

He dreams of dog biscuits and squirrells. How wonderful to be so care free!! Maybe that's the way you are when you love someone, unconditionally, so long as that somene is you!!

Blue sounds like you have a great grandpuppy :)

We have looked into a puppy for the kids and a golden is at the top of the list, and as soon as I know they will really help take care of it we will get one. Until then I do not need another thing no one else be me takes care of.

If you decide to get one Julia please consider the group that Blue mentioned. Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue is one group. Puppies are great and unbelievably cute but a visit to that wonderful groups website may change your mind..... and break your heart.

Will do sweetie, maybe if we get an older one that is not so hyper they will not have to wait so long to get one.

I hate to burst your bubble, but....

Goldens are hyper until they are about 5-6 years old. Their hyperactivity, however, is all loved based.

Btw, Barney is still out cold. Guess he has settled in.

Hype is fine as long as it is not puppy-chewing up everything-hype. I am not up for dealing with that.

Barney didn't wake us up until....

7:30 am. We did a brisk walk because it was fucking cold out and since then the day has been a charm. Ole Barney is asleep on the sofa with his legs straight up in the air. This is not a little dog, btw. He just growled in his sleep--must be chasing squirrels.
That's not growling; he's snoring!

"Mommy" called early to find out how Barney was doing. I told her that he had settled in. (He even helped to host a little dinner party, last night.

Barney just woke up, jumped off the sofa and went to get his new chew toy, a real marrow bone from last night's dinner. No rawhide for Barney.

So, last night we're going out to.....

dinner. We put our coats on and the dog goes nuts. Not that he hasn't had ANY attention. So we go to enter the garage and Barney is out the door, waiting at the car. Of course, I cave and the dog goes with us. I ate while he slept in the car in his fur coat. or what was left after leaving hair all over my home.

We drive home, Barney gets some Puporoni treats and we go to watch Movies in bed. Poor Barney--- he was forced to sleep on a comforter on a leather couch. I can't wait to hear him complain to "mommy").

The little angel slept until 7.45, woke me up, took a dump, ate breakfast and is now taking a snooze while I type this out. We cook chile today. The smells will drive him into dreamland. What a life!!!!!

Mommy will drop by later to pick up Barney. I will feel sad when he leaves but I am ready to let him go. What a perfect prelude to grandchilren. I can't wait!!!
