I am confused....why is being gay used as an insult around here?

No kidding Siren - starting to aggrivate me - and I'm a pretty patient person...

I used to think that about a lot of people at Lit, but anymore several people are showing their lack of maturity. :(

But, on another note, I don't use any references of homosexuality as an insult. Hell, I'm half gay myself. Very open and out. Love gay/bi women, and I think gay men are just so damn yummy!

I know yayati uses it and I might have even used it in a post back to him, but it was an insult to him and him alone and not anyone else. Though I cannot honestly remember if I did or not.

I think if anyone is using Phag, it is to sling yayati's term back at him........

That is not a good term to use and really has no meaning as insult or negativity.........when/if I did/didn't use it back at yayati.

If someone took it the wrong way, realise there was no intent other than the above stated intent. ;)

I don't even see how the term can be an insult... okay as kids you spout that word around alote.. and guys will call antoher guy a girl to insult them... but comeone were all adults here. Only person your going to hurt by refering to them as a fag or queer or whatever is a homofobe or yourself... In most cases it's yourself cause your looking the ass to others.

Because the men who use it are homophobic. Its ok if women are gay, I don't think they even really consider woman to be gay. To call another guy a 'fag' hits them right where it hurts...their masculinity. "Real Men" aren't gay kinda thing. In my limited experience, straight men aren't even interested in being friends with a gay male. I could be wrong, this is just my opinion.

But they are men, they are stupid like that ;)

I mean, when was the last time any of us women were in an argument or debate with someone and called them a lesbian or dyke...(unless of course they really are one..hehee) :D

In any event, wouldn't it be great if we ALL stopped doing it?

Yes, it would, but good luck getting these adult children to grow the fuck up.

~sigh~

I have heard women use sexuality terms as abuse. I think that the idea is to hit the other person as hard as possible. Your sexuality, and how it is perceived by others, is really important to everyone.

As a straight guy I would be very offended if someone called be gay. I am not homophobic. I have a couple of gay friends, one of whom even comes to me when he needs to moan about his love life. The other one makes cracks to me about the state of his arse.
But if someone else called me gay, I'd be pissed off, because it's all a display isn't it? I want to appear like the Utimate Heterosexual Man to any prospective dates/rivals. Even on an anonymous board, because my psychology doesn't take time off when I post.

Well that's me anyway.

Because, PC is REALLY a PHAG!!!!!!!! He's just trying to hide it by actiing macho.:p

KillerMuffin

The simple reason is that most of our GB males are homophobic.

Muffin. You can do better than that.

hey! i am from GB and i am not a homophobe!
i can still remember a time when gay meant happy
to be honest , i thought all the posters from GB were gay apart from me......i am always the odd one out

A Bit off topic

My 5th grade teacher is gay. REALLY!!!!!!! Her name's Gay Wright.

Perhaps I missed some threads but I have only come across the use of "fag" or its variations in the "troll" threads(ie Yayati rants and exchanges, random troll comments).

I dont consider it pervasive or problematic on the board.

PC used PHAG ALOT!!!!!!! I havn't seen him do it, in about a month, though.

Ok, let me try and explain this for you simpletons who don't get satire.

Satire is when you make fun of someone by imitating them and make them look stupid. Satire is defined as "trenchant wit, irony or sarcasm used to discredit vice or folly".

For my entire stay here at lit, I do not believe that I have ever called anyone a fag and meant it as an insult to homosexuals. I may have used the word a few times, but since I don't consider homosexuals any less important as human beings than any other class of people, I really doubt that I would ever use it in a seriously directly or indirectly derogatory manner.

Mr. Yayati, however, has insulted almost every class of human being from the day he got here. He insults homosexuals, Arabs, Jews, Americans, women, Indians, Pakistanis, Chinese, Blacks, the English....I could go on and on. Whether he believes what he says or it's all an act is up for debate (and no Cheyenne I don't need to see the thread where you outed him again, I've seen it ten times).

When I use "phags", "ndns" and "amer jewis" in the exact same way he does, it doesn't mean I hate "phags", "ndns", and "amer jewis". It means I think Yayati is a waste of DNA and a reprehensible human being. I used satire against him. I gave him a dose of his own medicine. Will it make him go away? Probably not, but in my opinion it was good for a laugh and made him look even stupider than he makes himself look, if that's even possible.

My use of the word "phag" is an attempt to satirize Mr. Yayati's attacks on homosexuals. The friendly banter between myself and Oliver Clozoff is another example of making fun of Yayati using satire. Whether you think it's funny is another matter, but what I find funny is the fact that some of the very people whining about the use of the word "phag" on this thread are the very same people applauding my satire of Yayati.

So, to summarize: I am not a homophobe, but you won't catch me sucking face with Ollie in this lifetime. That means I'm hetero, but have nothing against those who choose a different lifestyle.

And if you still don't get satire, go rent some fucking Monty Python tapes. Wait, they'll probably be over your head...on second thought, try SNL.

Nope, I've noticed the same thing. An example- I know one normally very smart man, who has been known to let his hair down now and then and have great fun with many people. One night at a bar, he was standing very near a guy he didn't know. This other guy was very openly gay, and had even brought his SO to this particular event. The normally smart guy knew OF him, but never had met him and didn't recognize him or know who it was until I told him. The normally smart guy got this terrible look on his face, like I'd just pointed out someone with a contagious disease. He practically RAN to the other side of the bar to get out of even being in the vicinity of the gay guy, mumbling something about that not being "his scene" as he ran. Surprised the shit out of me. This normally smart man behaved like an idiot.

To answer Siren's question though, I think people use the insult here because it is also used as an insult in real life. Sex site or not, everyone comes here with their own particular prejudices. Hopefully, most of the people who come are the ones who are more open minded in the first place.

Ah, sure, PC. Satire. Uh-huh. I know you're a "closet" PHAG!!!!!!!!!!!!:p

Oh well, it's an idea. Of all of the insults one could hurl, this is probably the dummest one because it reflects far worse on the person using it than on the one who is "accused." Don't you think so?

Dude, what have you been drinking today?? You seem a little too hyper tonight.
