I'm sorry -- I haven't seen much here that I cared to respond to, and I am lagging behind the others in the race to my own title -- stuck at guru forever, it seems.

Feel free to leave now. Really. It's just a rant.

I'm not green, unless I've had one too many margaritas. I don't drive a broom. I don't wear striped tights and a pointy hat, not even at Halloween. I wear jeans instead.

I'm not glamorous, either, and don't wear pounds of MAC makeup and slinky, slithery and very short dresses.

In short, I'm a very typical witch, and I get crazy at this time of year with the witchie wannabes coming out of the woodwork, and the catalogues telling me I should be green, and me being short of margarita money.

Thank you. You may all resume your regularly scheduled whatever it is you do.

The joy of meaninglessness..
But what if I'm wearing green sunglasses at night, hmm?

You'll glow GREEN.
Admit it, you're green. So very green. It's just trapped on the inside. I think you need to embrace your greenness. Do you remember Kermit on the Muppet's Movie?

"But you know greens the color
of the grass and the trees,
Yes, you know I think,
it's a very fine color to be."

You're the best witch on the board, Creamy Lady. Well, apart from Morgana Supreme Queen Of The Witches but she keeps a pretty low profile.

To bad wiccans are good natured people..he really deserves a whammy for that one..LOL

I still have Veronica Lake as my image of a witch :)

She wasn't green as near as I could tell.

Never -- I'm still not green.

Roger: Thank you. That's one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me. As a witch, that is . . .

Carl -- I will deal with you later.

Luscious Lioness: What can I say . . . that question is one that turns many a mild-mannered witch into a snarling virago, leaving the questioner wondering "What the FUCK did I say?"

The answer goes into great detail about how much bad karma one is prepared to take on oneself for the actions of others.

Spreading the love is just a matter of consideration and thought for the feelings of others. It doesn't need a potion. Well, maybe a good margarita . . .

Rosebud: See my answer to Carl above. <|:)

RonG: I'll hold out for Kim Novak. Wow . . . she's another one I always wanted to look like!

Witchy Woman and Pyewacket

I love Kim Novak's cat Pyewacket in Bell, Book and Candle .. I always thought that was such a cool name for a cat.

Oh and I like Elizabeth Montgomery, too! :)
__________
Witchy Woman

Raven hair and ruby lips,
Sparks fly from her finger tips
Echoed voices in the night,
She's a restless spirit on an endless flight

Woo-hoo, witchy woman, see how high she flies
Woo-hoo, witchy woman, she got the moon in her eyes

She held me spellbound in the night,
Dancing shadows and firelight
Crazy laughter in another room
And she drove herself to madness with a silver spoon

Woo-hoo, witchy woman, see how high she flies
Woo-hoo, witchy woman, she got the moon in her eyes

I know you want to love her but let me tell you, brother,
She's been sleepin' in the devil's bed
There's some rumors goin' round, someone's underground,
She can rock you in the night until your skin turns red

Woo-hoo, witchy woman, see how high she flies
Woo-hoo, witchy woman, she got the moon in her eyes

~The Eagles~

I know I'll catch a bit o' stuff for this but.. if you didn't want people to ask you about love potions, ask you if you could turn people into frogs, and make jokes about flying on broomsticks perhaps you shouldn't call yourself a witch.
The New Age/pagan/shamanism/ Wiccan religious draw from hundreds of cultures and there are, literally, thousands of titles the Wiccan community could have taken. They choose witch though while knowing what that meant in popular perception.
I know the reasoning behind this goes back to early medieval times and the root word behind witch but that word just meant 'old lady' - the majority of the women burned under the word 'witch' were Christen. True, they might have blended Christian beliefs with more folklorist and familial practices but it wasn't until this century that pagan religious practitioners called themselves 'witches'.

Perhaps you embrace the title but you can't fault people for knowing what the word originally meant and what is means now in popular culture.

That's just my opinion - I could be wrong.

Dearest Creamy Lady,
As a follow follower of the old ways I sympathize. My son hates stories where there is a wicked witch since all the witches he knows are fabulous folk... I have taken to calling them mean stangers...He was amazed that there were witch costumes for Halloween, I guess he was wondering why on earth anyone would dress in regular clothes as a costume.
I hate the fact that my Blessed Be bumper sticker has resulted in extreme christian harrassment and I hate the ridiculous hoopla over samhain-brought about by ill-informed churches. So all I have to say is I worked a money spell for margarita cash for you and you know what-I'd love to see you pale chartreuse from one too many-
found this poem for you...

Sorry babe I had to say it .... That little smile there is so cute.

I'm glad your not green ... would make walking down the street a little odd. I'm glad you don't ride a broomstick ... would make parking easier but just think how may eyes you would pop out.

I am Glad however that you are you, and that by being that you are happy. If others are allowed their Religions then so are you babe, and I might just have to come over and join you, at least you sound like you have fun babe.

Take Care :)

Never, actually the root meant to bend or shape. Same root as wick - as in candlewick.

An honest request for instruction is one thing, but a demand for a spell, without understanding -- or wanting to -- the ramifications is another entirely. Luscious Lioness did neither, but "love potion" and "love spell" are two words that just raise hackles.

Many who ask me for love spell tell me, in excrutiating detail, just who the object of their love/lust is, and go to great lengths to collect personal items for the spell. To bind another, without the other's knowledge and consent, is about the most horrible thing a person could do, and will always bite the person casting the spell.

I am not wiccan, by the way; I am a witch. Wicca is a tradition that uses degrees and initiation to mark progress on the path. Mine doesn't.

So, you won't catch stuff. A mild lecture.

Are you a good witch or a bad one. The bad ones are much cooler and we all know you are bad. LOL.

Hmmm. . . When I'm good, I'm very very good, but when I'm bad, I'm much much better.

<|:)

Hello, Never but I am afraid I disagree slightly..the term witch originally meant wise woman and while yes many of the victims of the Burning Times were Christian they were fairly recent converts to a religious path that blended and borrowed a great deal from their pagan(from the Latin Pagani-meaning country) roots.
I practice magic although I am not Wiccan and I also consider myself a witch...I use the term Pagan due to extreme pressure from my attorney due to a custody issue that he feels is best left alone.
Calling yourself a witch, and expecting insults are not synonymus...any more so than dressing a certain way and then being told you deserve sexual harrassment.
It is true that a great many neo-pagans have adopted somewhat controversial names-necromancers for example.
Look at it this way no podiatrist wants to look at bunions at a cocktail party. Just because he is a podiatrist does not mean that he is able or willing to diagnose someone through their shoes at a formal event...
I speak only for myself, well okay for my coven too, but I never cast any sort of spell or weave a binding for someone I do not know and who does not seem aware of what they are fully asking...
Okay,enough ranting...gonna go get a bath.

CreamyLady, you are my favorite witch by far! And that includes Veronica Lake, Kim Novack, and Elizabeth Montgomery (who did inspire some of my earliest remembered fantasies!).

Thank you Skibum. A big hug to you, and I promise -- I'm working, I'm working . . . ;-)

Excellent question, Dilly! I haven't heard from her in ages- but I'm sure Skibum has. Maybe he'll pass this thread along to her to let her know we are thinking about her.

Here I am. Really. In front of Frank N. Stein on Halloween, and just dropping in for a bit of auld lang syne.

Skibum knows where I am, as he is sitting on the bed right now watching Enterprise. Since there is a full moon tonight in the sign of Taurus (sun in Scorpio), it is a very good place for him. Only one of us has to move. ;)

I have been working. I would have been dealing with Empty Nest, but Skibum moved in before Witchscat moved out, and when she left the increased room made it all better.

Now that I can log in again (don't ask), I'll probably be lurking more. Provided I can stand to look at the screen after a day at the mines.

Also provided I don't get chosen for Grand Jury duty tomorrow.

Happy Halloween, everyone. Remember that Lunar Samhain will actually fall on the next new moon, which will be on November 16th. It's a good time for banishing spells.

Nice to hear from you!!!

Wonder if I'll be able to see the new moon over the lights of Vegas?
