I take it, you once had respect for this man?

Cop out.Joe Wordsworth said:It doesn't prove anything about logic, how you came to that as a conclusion is beyond me. It's neither a participant in logic nor is it a rational followthrough. Just a believe, and one independant of conclusiveness. Let's leave logic out of this, unless we're entertaining it being brought in.

I don't mean to come across as lacking respect but has anyone looked deeper into possible reasons?
He is said to have been involved in some really nasty activities over the years and his suicide appears to be either out of character or reinforcement of some of the claims.
I'm not as informed to many of his life's details. Was it possible he was involved in Satanism?

shereads said:He was involved with Nixon at one time, but as an adversary, not a worshipper. In the 60s, he rode with the Hells Angels so he could write about them. He was involved with Johnny Walker and Jim Beam. He was involved with a number of chemical reality-enhancers. But Satan? Please.
I can see how Nixon + Hells Angels = Satan, in the minds of people hoping to derive some excitement from the all-too-typical suicide of a writer. But please don't encourage cruel rumors like that. His family is facing a tough road, even without lunatics conducting seances in the driveway.

Pre-edited in.shereads said:His circle of friends do a lot of illegal drugs and binge-drinking. That'll kill ya. As for accusations made against him, if you can't find someone in the drug culture to testify that you travel to the moon by broomstick you aren't trying hard enough.

Offended? On the contrary, I'm an active recruiter for Satanism. Stamp collecting kept me cooped up in the house all the time. As a Satanist, I get out and meet people. I'm richer, more successful, slightly taller than I used to be, I've stopped aging, and I have no enemies. (They break out in boils or have "accidents.") And the parties...Yowsa! I think HST would have enjoyed it. But he didn't RSVP. So I shot him.ruminator said:I didn't mean to insult anyone but I honestly think there's more to this situation.
Sorry if I offended you.

If you knew him as a writer, you wouldn't take it seriously either. I can't think of anyone who was less likely to worship a supernational being than Hunter S. Thompson. He saw the world with painful clarity. He didn't need to join a cult to be introduced to devils who manipulate the truth to benefit their followers. They were - and are - flesh and blood. He hunted and exposed them. Last year, he expended a lot of time and passion on the fight to remove one of them from the White House. He took the election personally. He lost. He was depressed. He drank. He owned guns. He died. It's not very titillating, is it? It simply sucks.ruminator said:I honestly thought I could turn to you for serious discussion.
I won't waste your time anymore.
Can I worship your Satanic bits, though.shereads said:If you knew him as a writer, you wouldn't take it seriously either. It might be fun to debate whether Hunter S. Thompson was a Satan worshipper, a Jehovah's witness or an Amway salesman, if only he were alive to laugh about it. He's not, though, and the loss is deeply felt. If you let yourself get suckered into a smear campaign in the aftermath of this tragedy, you should be ashamed of yourself.

No Fatwah, honest.

Sniffle, sniffle. Hunter'd be proud of you (though he wouldn't tell you). P.shereads said:But it's the only kind of sarcasm I know.
