Hugo Chavez, the elected leftist leader of Venezuela, struck back today against the phony "strike" (really a lockout by employers) there, behind which the shadowy hand of the CIA and Otto "Death Squad" Reich can clearly be discerned. Troops seized Panamco, an affiliate of Coca Cola (the "black waters" of U.S. imperialism) and Latin America's largest soft drink bottler, dispersing a small group of protesters. National Guard Gen. Luis Felipe Acosta Carles, commanding the troops, declared "collective rights come above individual rights." Chavez called the opponents of his regime "fascists, terrorists and coup-mongers," which is about right.
With all the bad news lately, it's nice to hear some good news from somewhere. There have been some major positive developments in South America lately. First, leftist Workers Party leader Lula was elected President of Brazil. Now it looks like the second CIA sponsored coup attempt against Chavez in less than a year is also going down to flaming defeat. Give 'em hell, Hugo!
