Huge rise in views on old story

Don't know if anyone has had anything similar happen, but I am seeing a huge rise in views on an old story.

It is part 4 of an 11 part series and usually gets about 5 views a day. It was published in March 2017.

In the last few weeks it has gone from just under 20,000 views to nearly 32,000 and in the last 24 hours has shot up by 3,000. All other parts of the story are still around the average 5 per day.

I've done a search on the title, 'Beth's Summer Break Pt.04' but nothing is showing up outside of Literotica.

It seemed to coincide with the new series stuff being implemented but that is the only thing I can see that may have caused the rise. Anyone got any ideas as it completely baffling me.

That's weird that it would happen in a chaptered story.

My theory is that these kinds of things usually happen when the algorithm links your older stories to a new posting as a "Similar Story." Then readers of the newly posted story click on yours after they read that one.

Was there something about your fourth chapter that made it different from the other ten, kink-wise?

Nothing that didn't happen in a few other parts - a bit of borderline BDSM with younger and older women involved. Just a flashback to part 3 and preparing the way for part five really.

Maybe it got listed as a recommended story on something wildly popular. Did it pop onto a toplist? Or maybe some poorly programmed bot or spider got caught in a loop.

I've got some numbers saved that were right before the series stuff went live, I believe. I'll have to look through them and see if there are any spikes.

Huh. Well, who knows? I could be totally off.

Not for the first time, I kinda wish the site would let us know when they linked one of our stories as similar to a new one.

Just looked through those numbers from October, and I don't see any unusual spikes on stories that were not linked under the old code, but are now under the new series coding, which is where I would expect it to happen if that had something to do with it.

Did you get new votes to go along with all those new views? I see small bumps in views on some of my older stories and I can usually pick out a reason for them. They usually come with votes as well.

I've seen this happen once in a while. The most extreme instance was a single chapter in a series that was getting perhaps 100 views per day months after publication that suddenly received 10,000 views in one day. In an extreme case like that it must be some kind of automated or bot activity, although I don't understand the technical side of how that happens.

I've seen less dramatic spikes once in a while. My guess is that it happens because the story suddenly appears on a "similar story" list or appears on the category hub page as a related story.

I've had this happen again just the last two days. I published an 8-chapter incest series 5 years ago. Chapter 1 generally gets around 120 views or so per day. But in the last two days it's averaged over 1300 views per day. I have no idea why. I published another incest story 9 days ago, but it didn't initially give this kind of boost to chapter 1. I can't explain the numbers.

Yes all very odd. Mine was now stuck on 31,918 views for six hours after going up by 100 every five minutes.

I assume all the speed readers are exhausted now!
