I can't use any research that is done by a Christian, even though our Lord calls himself a Shepherd.

Does He? Bear in mind that a shepherd is not in it for the sheep. They are not his children, they are not his pets, they are nothing to him but wool, mutton and pussy.

I believe the bible so yes, I believe he does.

John 10:11-18 New International Version (NIV)
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

14 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”

Like the illustration I gave about the shepherd at night, a shepherd protects his sheep by putting himself between them and danger. I like that he would do this for those in his pen and those outside of it. He would care for all.

I agree that God loves all men as the Bible says.

Usually a shepherd is a hired hand and does not own the sheep.

My thoughts are who would be a better shepherd? Someone(you can call them a shepherd) who was hired to watch the sheep or the shepherd that owned them.

He is basically saying he has our back!

Psalm 100:3 New International Version (NIV)
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

The man that owns them plans to fleece them, steal their children and/or sell their meat.

In retrospect probably not the best metaphor...

But here's me, feeding one of the little delicious morsels.

What kind of devilry would turn a sheep into a goat??

I SAW GOODIE LED_ASTRAY WITH THE DEVIL!

I work with messed up children on a daily basis. I can assure you that spanking in any form is the last thing they need.

You would be wrong in most cases but I can see that there are cases where a child has been abused that spanking may not be the best option. Nonetheless, kids need to be disciplined.

If you have to hit a kid to discipline them, you're a straight-up failure. You have to be completely out of options to resort to that, and if you've let a CHILD get the best of you that fast then... yeah, you're a failure. Not just as a parent, but as a human person.

I don't even know how that would come up. The worst thing a kid can do, really, is hit another kid, and like pretty much any situation, you just pick them up. They're so small. You can deescalate pretty much anything by just picking them up and removing them from the situation.

Like... it's not rocket science. What are yhall out here hitting kids for? Like how did you get yourself into that situation? What was the lead up- how did it get that bad? How did it get to the point where you were like, "I have literally no other option, I have to resort to operant conditioning so they'll learn pain = bad instead of actually trying to fix the situation"?

I just... don't understand how it EVER gets that bad. How did you fail SO HARD that you have to resort to violence with a CHILD?

Discipline comes from within. The only thing you instill by beating a child is fear of punishment - and that isn't the same thing at all. The fact that you believe it is tells me all I need to know.

Mind you, you follow a God who rules by fear and isn't above killing folks who don't behave how he wants, so I shouldn't be surprised.

I can guarantee you 100% that I have dealt with worse situations involving children's behaviour than 99% of parents. And not just tiny toddlers but teens as well. But never have I been forced to resort to hitting a child, nor would I want to.

People who think like you are what's wrong with the world. It's why the kids today are so messed up. I never said it was my first option. Of course it is a last resort, but it works when needed. Don't call me a failure, that a complete lie. My daughter is a 4.2 GPA student and my son took 5th in the State last year in wrestling. They love Jesus which is the most important thing in life. I only taught my kids to hit in self defense and that is the best thing to do if someone is attacking you. Only an abusive moron would think otherwise. I think you have a logical disconnect and it sounds like you have been corrupted by liberal, anti Christian thinking.

A distaste for spanking is anti-Christian? According to what, the Gospel of Saint de Sade?

Is this where I talk about love?;)

I just caution about spanking. I know that it is really taught in some religious circles. I was basically a stay at home mother. I have always worked part time after we had kids. I remember I could not get my youngest son to listen. It was getting really bad so I thought "I am going to be a good mother and give him a spanking." I went to cool down and came back and decided I was going to give him 10 swats on the butt with clothes on, so I did." He cried, my other son cried.

It wasn't until years later that my son brought it up and told me how he felt about it. He noticed that I had never spanked my other son. The 10 swats were too many and it made him feel the way I never wanted any child of mine to feel. It felt abusive to him so I had to tell him if it felt that way to him than it was not the right choice for me to make. I apologized. I really do have amazing children that share so much with me about their lives. We are really close because we have good communication. They are such amazing young men.

If I could do it over again I wouldn't have been a "good mother" and given him a spanking. What a parent may see as discipline their child may feel belittled by. Don't get me wrong I think a lot of the problem today is that parents don't give their children consequences for the bad things they do. I just think their are other ways to do it. :rose:

What about love?:D (Thought I might include that for Candicame)
