How to get a Brazilian Wax

Hi y'all.

So someone is wanting me to get a Brazilian Wax. I'll be going from not even shaving my legs or armpits to completely hairless. I'm scared.

So please give me some advice because I know there is a lot of tips y'all can offer me.

Specifically.
1. How can I manage the pain? I read aspirin, Lidocaine creams, a hot bath before hand. What really works?

2. How do I manage my embarrassment?

3. What if I get aroused from the attention to my sensitive spots?

4. Aftercare. I have very sensitive skin. I breakout in hives frequently from almost nothing.

5. Also I read somewhere that the time in the cycle might make a difference. Is it best to get it done the week between the period and ovulation? Any experience?

Take some Motrin before the appointment.
The first time will hurt, but each time after will be better. Breathe through it.

My experience, but note that I have a penis, not a vulva.

1. Pain. The first time I took a couple of Motrin before. Since then I don't. Some of it will hurt, but not all. It goes away.
2. Embarrassment. You are not likely to have anything they haven't seen. The person waxing you is a professional. There's nothing to be embarrassed about. Think of it like going to see your doctor.
3. Arousal. You may or may not get aroused. It happens. At least you don't have quite as visible a sign of being aroused as penis-owners do. Again, they've seen it before. As long as you don't act on it it's not an issue.
4. Aftercare. Don't exfoliate right after. Wait a day or so. I use aloe. The salon will probably have some recommendations, too. Wear loose/soft underwear so the fabric doesn't rub against you too much.
5. Cycle - well...not my area of expertise or experience. It sounds reasonable that there are probably better times than others.

Be calm. Deep breaths in through the nose, out through the mouth. Meditate. The first time is a bit rough, but, as others said, it gets better after that. If you're lucky, like me, at the end of a year it will be a routine part of your grooming rituals. Or you'll hate it and go back to the way things were. It's all good.

No experience with getting a brazilian but yes, my pain tolerance is better during the follicular phase, starting a couple of days after the period starts and lasting until ovulation.
Science is not conclusive on the topic but it really only matters how it works for you.

I've waxed for years, so while I'm not an expert in giving waxes, I'm an expert in receiving them. Best advice? Make sure your salon has waxers specifically trained in Brazilians and more importantly, ask them these questions. They can give recommendations based on a number of details that we just don't know.

Also, make sure you are doing this for YOU and because you want to. Otherwise you will be even more nervous and that can be not fun.

1. Pain management: I have a high pain tolerance, but friends of mine who wax and have zero pain tolerance say that waxing should not hurt too much. Regardless, I would not take anything beforehand for the perceived pain. First of all, while it does sting, it should not hurt. If it hurts then you have to feel it so you can tell your aesthetician that something is not right. If you take something for it, you won't be able to accurately gauge if something is wrong. Plus, applying something topically beforehand may mess up the way the wax adheres to the hair. Typically, when you go in, they will ask what sort of medication or drugs you are taking or have taken in the past week, and what product you put on your skin. It's vital that you tell them the full truth, because it can be dangerous.
And whatever you do, do NOT take aspirin or anything of the ilk (including alcohol and cannabis). It can thin your blood and leave you with nasty bruises. The place I go to, for example, will not wax if you take an over the counter. It's their policy and they just won't.

2. Embarrassment: These are professionals. They don't care. They want you relaxed so that they can give you the best service possible. They've seen it all before. If you are feeling a bit shy, make sure you tell them that, because they will then go that extra step to make you comfortable (such as a modesty towel, asking if you want chatter, etc).

3. Arousal: the places I go to are pretty clinical, so unless that's your thing, it probably won't happen. If it does, they've seen it before and don't care.

4. Aftercare: warm water only, though to be fair, this should be discussed with your aesthetician. They will tell you exactly what to do and what products (if any) to apply, and what to look out for.

5. I don't wax a few days before I expect my period, because I tend to be sensitive at that time. Everyone is different.

There is nothing to be nervous about: the aestheticians are professionals and they are in the business to make sure that you are comfortable and that you have the best possible results. In my years (decades, even) of getting waxed (and lasered), I had 1 problem, and that's because I went to a place that didn't specialised in Brazilian/bikini waxing and that's on me (my first clue was when I asked about a Brazilian and they didn't understand the terminology. But I was an idiot ). My appointments are typically quick and incredibly professional. The aestheticians I go to know their stuff and they've seen it all. Most are like this.

I did it y'all. It was easy and great.
Yes it was embarrassing to lay on a table with my legs spread and all my bits open for a stranger, but it wasn't too bad. Maybe that was my buddy Xanax, that took care of it. But next time I won't even need to take my Xanax.
I should have done it years ago.

Great! After sharing most of the same concerns as you, my wife finally just decided to do it. I made her an appointment with my aesthetician who has done my Brazilian twice now. On the drive over she popped a Xanax too, and the two of them laughed and talked all the way through the session. We are both thrilled with the results and came to the same conclusion as you: should have done it years ago.

So are you keeping up the bare look? Feeling less embarrassed? I think we are both customers for life now.

yes. I have have been going about every 8 weeks. I have started asking for a landing strip as I don't like the completely bare look.

The tech does it so much believe me the don’t care. The first time it hurts but after that it’s easier each time. Try to go every three weeks. You’ll be a little sore for about 24hours it after that you will be fine
