When I open a story, I get option to change the page to dark mode. How can I do that when I'm here in the forum?

As of yet, you can't. There is no dark mode available. Now you could download an add on to your browser that will convert the output of the server to dark mode before you see it. I use one called Dark Night Mode. Check you local adds on for your browser.

If you are using Chrome or Microsoft Edge you can do the following, it will effect ALL web pages:

Open new tab, enter the following address respective to the browser:
Egde://flags
Chrome://flags

In the upper search box, enter Dark, hit search

Flag to enable Dark mode should be presented, Enable it, restart the browser - Dark mode for all pages.

I followed your instruction and found this :

How to force Dark Mode on websites using Edge browser

Then I clicked open and got a warning saying it was a dangerous site

I don't use Chrome, and I would never, ever use MS Edge. However, the browser I use is Chromium based, but the original, not the version Google created to spy on all it's users as does Edge. In fact the browser I use, strips out all the adds and badpages, it's also faster than Chrome or Edge.

Since I started using it...

Well, what ya know, even my browser has flags... hundreds of flags. I had to scroll down five pages or so to ge to the dark mode one. Ya learn something new every day. Thanks for that... must easier on the eyes.

Guess what, you don't need to go through the flags. I just bought a new HP monitor. There are buttons hidden under the screen where you can adjust the brightness of your screen. Some Older monitors may have those too.

Dark Mode has nothing to do with the brightness of the screen. It is a reversal of the dark on light to light on dark.
