How often have we heard

"My wife — all my sin and shame fell on her. People treated her as if she had fallen," he said. "And my children — they all went through carrying my shame. And I am so sorry that I did that to my family."
No, your community did that to your family. That's the Christian spirit in action.

Whoops, there goes another commandment, ker-plop! Ker-plop!:D

Go into any courthouse where a murder trial is in session and the clerks, bailiffs, etc, will be joking, asking when the defendent is going to claim abuse as a child. It is such a common ploy by defense attorneys that it is almost certain to at least be mentioned if not used as a primary defense.

That's the beauty of being a Christian - you don't have to take responsibility for your actions, you can just hand them off to God and receive your forgiveness as if nothing ever happened. Us heathens, on the other hand, have to live with our sins for the rest of our lives.

Has more to do with the far lefts not wanting anyone held accountable for their own actions. It's always someone elses fault. Or that favorite: society!

Wrong.

Nice try guys, but no fundie cigar for you on this one. The guy was one of the Crown Princes of Fundie Right Wing Wacko Land - he is ALL yours.

What I do find funny though is when a "reformed" gay man says things like "We consistently blow it." Muahahahaha!!!

I got the feeling the reference to the far left was more intended as a statement for why people find this ploy acceptable, not a reference to who was using at this particular moment.

Not stating an agreeance with the statement, merely stating my impression thereof.

Except, of course, the Christian community heaps shame on the innocent family and other bystanders.

HOld on, now, Stella. Let's not pile this up on the "Christian community." EL's a Christian, I believe. Remember what matters; not if someone's a Christian, but if they're an asshole.

I have no problem with holding people accountable.

It is your refusal to be accountable for your own pet policies that pisses me off.

We tell you that a war on drugs will make crime skyrocket. What do you do? You declare a war on drugs. And when crime skyrockets, you actually use that as justifucation for your war on drugs.

Same with the war on terror.

Same with shaming homosexuality.

I don't blame society. I blame you guys for destroying our society. Your insatiable appetite for criminals to hold accountable for shit is fucking up my life and making my world more dangerous.

Stop it!

I was quoting from the article;
"My wife — all my sin and shame fell on her. People treated her as if she had fallen," he said. "And my children — they all went through carrying my shame. And I am so sorry that I did that to my family."

Well, it could be worse. He could have said the Devil made him do it. Unfortunately there are people out there that would believe this just as easily as they will believe his current excuse.

Remember, that's what he says. We haven't heard from the wife and kiddies, yet, nor are we likely to. Can't be makin' Dad take the fall for his own actions, now, can we?

Same old, same old! It doesn't matter what part of the political spectrum you're from, when you fuck up it isn't someone else's fault. Period!

This is confusing. A personal responsibility advocate (DP) is claiming that he can blame the far left for the preacher not wanting to take responsibility for his actions? Isn't this a circular argument, leading back to the fact that if you believe in personal responsibility, you can't blame the far left for everything you see wrong with society?

I am also a believer in pesonal responsibility. The silly ass who is the subject of this thread is whining that what he did wasn't his fault. He was molested (he says) as a child and that's why he did it. I see nothing wrong with soliciting the services of a prostitute but he apparently thinks there is.

That is this specific case. If you listen to the mantra chanted by bleeding-heart liberals they will say that criminals are the victims of society. This poor man was teased by his big sister and that's why he is a serial rapist. This other poor guy steals to support his drug habit and it's not his fault he is adddicted to cocaine. Someone else is illiterate and it's not his fault he dropped out of school.

There are always law suits against the tobacco industry because people got sick from smoking. It has been common knowledge that cigarets make people sick, but those sick people started smoking anyhow. You know as well as I and everybody else does that it is usually liberals who say things like the things I have said facetiously.

Do you listen to the mantra of bleeding heart liberals? I don't. I listen to reason and common sense. Common sense says that an individual's environment will play a role in shaping his values as he grows up. That doesn't mean anyone wants to let criminals off the hook because they had a shitty childhood. The idea is to try to prevent shitty childhoods in the future by learning from the mistakes being made today. This is common sense, it's not a mantra to let criminals out of jail (well, except for drug criminals who got busted for possession only.) I think some people may be confusing the dialogue of lawyers defending clients with the dialogue of the so-called liberal left. They are not one and the same.

Lawsuits aren't exclusively a liberal pursuit. People file lawsuits to make money. It's part of the capitalist system. Cigaret companies make money killing people, and lawyers make money suing them for it.
