How much back story and character description

I’m not sure how much this helps. But I’ve recently gone back to a story that I started writing a while ago and then stopped. It’s a quasi-autobiographical story and I am always tempted to explain more with those.

But… the first thing I did, looking at it as a slightly more experienced writer, was to take the introduction and move it to my cheat notes section at the end. I introduced the things that were necessary as I went along and left out (or am leaving out - I haven’t finished it yet) what was not necessary.

But… I also sometimes write short jerk-off stories. I often self-describe in them, mostly for narcissistic reasons. I want the readers to be jerking off to me, not some random image.

Yes my therapist knows. I have issues, this is public knowledge.

I think this probably falls into the short jerk-off story category ... it's really my fantasy that I decided to put into words one day, and that got some favourable responses in another forum, so I worked it up a bit more ... but ultimately, it's still my fantasy, involving guys I know. It's an experiment, really, to see if I want to work on more 'developed' things, with actual backstories and some character development. (There's too many 'develops' in that sentence.)

That's because you're developing a story in your mind; you know, with back stories and characters and emotions and stuff.

Meanwhile, let us know when your debut gets published - there's nothing wrong with stroker smut, providing it's long enough to raise interest.

7K words ... I feel like it's maybe TOO long.

My belated advice- try to make the sex worth the wait and get better over time. If you must throw in stuff that is not sex, keep it interesting and necessary. No time for specific examples. When in doubt, talk with your characters, then your editors, and write!
