Not weird, just life. We remember people because they stand out to us and they don't have to be hot and gorgeous to do so. I remember in grade 9, a big girl who was on a diet. I never hung out with her through high school, but I do remember her diet consisted of not bringing a lunch and she mooched mine and others. She is memorable - I remember her whole name. There are ones I don't recall, but that's because I had little contact with them, I think.
I was contacted by someone through Classmates once. She claimed to hang with me. I didn't recognize her name, looked in the yearbook and didn't recognize her face. I couldn't place her even when she mentioned mutual friends. Don't feel bad. There are likely people you remember but who don't know who the fuck you are.

There's quite a few I don't know either at all or at most only tangentially.
I think my graduating class had around 800 people, so not knowing them all is understandable.

Happens a lot to me. I lived a trashy and scandalous life during that period and people are always telling me shit they'd heard about me back then.

What was weird was I remembered every single face and in most cases the names, but just not this one person....
There were only 174 people in my class. The only reason I remember the exact figure was because it was a remarkably large class for my town. The whole high school had only 400 pupils until my year started. Getting so many new pupils in one hit put a huge strain on the school and they actually didn't have enough teachers for us. (In Aussie, school are run federally rather than locally which I got the impression was the case for the US. Getting new funding can be like mating elephants; it takes two years for anything to happen).

when I'm old and grey which isn't long now, I will remember you ...... every damn last one even those that try my patience to the limit or prattle on in high faluting terms that I don't understand. You each have your little something (or in some cases egos big enough to trip over) but I will try and banish the big mouthed yobbos to the dark recesses and recall only those that made me laugh, made me cry and are all round good eggs albeit a trifled cracked!
