How many Satans are there?

I don't follow Todd-o's threads or posts, but the title of a recent one has me thinking:

The Satan of Christianity ain't interested in you unless

Now I know that there are religions which admit the existence of multiple gods, and given the number of religions themselves that seems a logical extension of the premise (which isn't to say it's valid, mind you.) While there are surely many demons, with many names, can there really be more than one Satan?

Can you tell I don't have a good grip on this whole Judeo-Christian schtick?

Satan is an idea really. Dosn't really matter if he exists or not, the concept of him does. Every religion could have a different satan or loki etc but the basic idea is the same. Personally I think satan is a personification of our own evil thoughts. I think that satan is a great scapegoat for religions who want to avoid responsibility for their own heinous acts. Satan exits and he is man.

That's why he has so many names. Beezlebub, the dark Prince, Dubya... they start off naming their satans different names, but in the end, popular use turns them all back to Satan.

My Satan was originally named Nothing.

As said earlier, for me, Mother Earth and Father Sky are my Gods. They exist in dynamic balance with each other. There is no room for Satan, he/she would be unbalanced in my spiritualism.

For the Christians the All mighty, All Merciful, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Supreme Eternal Being and King of Kings would need some balance, thus Satan is necessary to the mythology to balance the Divine Holy Spirit.

Anyway, just my take on it.

I still don't get it, Mecha, but I realize now that The Artist went back to being Prince (he's not The Prince, as in Of Darkness, at least... is he?) so I think you need to petition this Atheist's Satan and see how he feels with regard to being called "The Arist formerly known as Satan." I wouldn't put off Siren to do that, but don't forget, eh?

If Mother Earth and Father Sky are your gods then wouldn't humanity be your satan? Look what we have done to this world? If you worship something then the Enemy of what you worship would be satan. Nothing has or is harming this planet more then us currently so I would call us satan then

If there are any linguists out there, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the word 'satan' initially mean 'adversary' in ancient Hebrew? My understanding is that it wasn't an entity so much as a designation. If you were an adversary, you were satan. The personification of Satan as an entity didn't come till later.

I could be wrong. It does happen.

Balance

Balance would be nice if we were responsible and limited our numbers. We don't seem to have any control over the resources we use or how many of us live on this planet. With the technology we have we could make this planet into a paradise not only for us but all the other creatures on it. We arn't caretakers. We are locusts. We breed uncontrolably then eat and destroy everything in our path. Obviously not everyone is like that but when you take us as a whole that seems to be the general result. I wish heartily that we were the earths caretakers and that the majority of us were responsible and put others ahead of ourselves. At least from what i've seen tho thats not true

I hate to differ with the popular view point here, but......


Satan is real, there is only of "him" one to answer the question. As far as balancing out God, get a clue, he, Satan, was made and is kept in check by God. The original name is just that, not an adjective. The translation is from Hebrew to Greek. In the Hebrew langauge, his name was Lucifer. Call him what you wish, just do not dwell on him. Do not seek him or his followers, and do not under estimate the power he was given.

Individuals don't make us Satan. There are both good people, evil people and every shade in between. Most people when given a choice between themselves and another they will choose themselves. If it's an emergecy especially you don't stop to think about consequences. With the number of people we have on this planet right now that makes us locusts. Not individually but as a race. At this point I don't think we have a choice actually. To make us one with the planet would take some major event.
Wipe out 80% of our race and reduce the likelyhood of wemon getting pregnant pluss the cause should be ours so we can learn from our mistakes and we might have a chance. Of course before any of that happens we will probably thrash everything in a desprate act of billions to hold onto what they deserve. If you said sorry everyone in america we have to stop using cars and can't use as much electricity anymore so we shall ration that as well, there would be hell to pay. Not to mention starvation and all out war. We are at a stage that without our technology this planet couldn't support the number of humans it has on it. That isn't balance by a long shot.
