How many believe that if Israel halts all military operations a lasting peace would breakout in Palestine?

From what I've gathered, lasting peace isn't an objective by anyone involved.
and that’s why funding this is a waste. There is no solution for the Middle East; funding is better spent in Ukraine where an end is possible

Seems to be the fair conclusion.

I also strongly suspect all the ongoing deaths of Palestinians isn't exactly going to encourage peaceful mindsets for the remaining population.

It took The Civil War, mass destruction, and hundreds of thousands dead and wounded for America to have "a lasting peace" (not totally peaceful)… until the next time…

It took WWI, WWII, mass destruction, and millions dead and wounded (plus the threat of nuclear annihilation) to establish "a lasting peace" globally (not totally peaceful)… until the next time…

It is possible that this war between Israel and Hamas, with the huge amount of death and destruction, will put both sides off repeating the folly, and, by default, achieve "a lasting peace" (not totally peaceful)… until the next time…

😑

There can never be peace because Israel is always stopped from eliminating Hamas

Senior Biden Admin Official Refused To Meet With Israeli Ambassador During 2021 Hamas Conflict, Internal Emails Show.

Samantha Power, the head of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), was asked to meet with then-Israeli ambassador Gilad Erdan in May 2021, when Hamas and other Palestinian terror groups were attacking Israel with missiles in protest of a court ruling that evicted six Palestinian families from an East Jerusalem neighborhood.
Power declined the meeting, internal government emails show, saying that Israel must first reach a ceasefire with the Palestinian terror groups before being granted a sit-down. The behind-the-scenes diplomatic drama reveals how the United States used back channels to pressure Israel into stopping its siege on Hamas militants—tactics that once again may be in play as the Biden administration pushes Israel into ending its current war on the terror group.
“The Administrator [Power] would like to take the meeting with the Ambassador [Erdan] but wants to hold until there is a ceasefire or resolution to the currently [sic] escalation of the conflict,” a scheduler in Power’s office wrote in a May 18 email to USAID colleagues working in the region, according to a cache of internal documents first obtained by the Center to Advance Security in America (CASA), a government watchdog group.
In recent weeks, the Biden administration has begun to walk back its robust support for Israel’s war against Hamas, with Biden saying on Thursday that the Jewish state’s response to the worst terror attack in its history is “over the top.” The administration has also reportedly considered slowing down arms sales to Israel to pressure the Israeli government into reaching a ceasefire with Hamas.

Lets start with the obvious. Neither side has any genuine interest in a lasting peace. Hamas probably has more interest in it at this point than Israel but neither side is aiming for that. The major issue for we have to deal with in the short term is reigning in Israel if for no other reason than they are making us look bad.

I don't think anybody is really saying Israel should cease all military operations whatever that means in practical terms. I mean is that a lay down their weapons and just take it? Or does it mean you can't keep just bombing at this point mostly for the lulz.

We absolutely must address the Jewish colonists that are constantly conquering new lands leaving the Palestinians with less and less land.

Defeating HAMAS in real terms is very nearly impossible. I don't kno whow over the last 22 years we haven't learned that defeating an idea isn't possible. They might change the name from Al Qaeda to ISIS or whatever they want to call themselves next year but they aren't going any place in real terms.

Fixing the Middle East really starts at this point with Israel talking opening to all parties involved. Then it wouldn't hurt anything to have the West at least offer official apologies if not some form of reparations to help with people moving around. When we collectively carved up the Middle East we gave zero shits about what groups of people identify as this or that.

If you look at a map of the Middle East which for the moment includes North Africa. You see something very interesting there. You see the same thing in the United States when you get west of the Mississippi. Straight lines, a lot of them. Normal people put borders at what are "agreed upon locations". Rivers, mountain ranges, particularly dense forests, obviously coast lines and sufficiently large lakes. Sometimes they are straight lines but not usually. Basically everything that has happened there after WW2 and really a bit before is the direct result of colonization and the break down of the Ottomans. This isn't easy to fix but its far from impossible. We need to stop stepping on our own dicks though.

Also Hamas leadership isn't even in Gaza they are mostly if not entirely okay. I don't know why the fuck we can't pour a pile of money on either leadership of whatever countries they are in and maybe a bunch of guys with bonesaws to in and come out with trash bags. Then get their own show called Dexter.

If Israel had prevented it's citizens from invading other people's houses (call them 'settlers', then it sounds OK) ever since the country was formed in 1947 with boundaries long since forgotten, the current state of affairs could have been prevented.

What happened to the Palestinians who lived in the land now called 'Israel'? They were thrown off and told to go live someplace else. This folks, is how you create a situation where people will die to make a point. You call them 'terrorists' and kill even more of them, you'll feel better afterwards as more people kill and be killed.

Yes, in order to genuinely go after hamas rather than as a cover story for ethnically cleansing Gaza of Palestinians.

I actaully like Sean's post above. This is a good, intelligent and insightful analysis that this board needs more of. (Thank you for that, by the way.) And it addresses the long standing issue with Israel/Palestine: You had outsiders basically carve a chunk out of what was once just "The Ottoman Empire" (a rather nebulous concept encompassing many semi-autonomous people) and declare a portion of it to be a "Jewish Homeland"- without regard to the people, culture and religion that was already there, and declare the other part of it to be the "Palestinian Homeland." It was short sighted; I don't think anyone foresaw the consequences of what would happen.

Do you believe that Israel has the will power to stop slaughtering children and that the broken Palestinian families will be benevolent obedient people after Israel stops bombing them?
