How many actually vote on poems?

Hi,
I'm new to the poetry forum. I just checked my poetry submissions and realised that one of the most viewed submissions has a zero vote. I don't really care that much for voting and can't really say I've received a lot of them. I'm just wondering if people actually bother to vote?

/LP:kiss:

I can only speak for myself. I do vote, but not everyday. Maybe three times a week, whenever I have time, I check the new poetry list and vote on them.

I don't read the older stuff that often, but when I do, I usually vote.

I vote too, but you do know that votes disappear here too, don't you? I hear they also take some time before they are counted.

Hey Lauren!

Hi, Star.

The votes are immediately counted and appear on the submissions page of your lit member control panel (unlike views, that are updated once or twice a day), but they can disappear from time to time, if there is any doubt regarding the legitimacy of them (like multiple votes from the same person, or from the same IP number).

But like everything else, the votes only have the importance you give them.

I vote on most of the poems I read. Not all get feed-back from me tho'.

I forget to vote often. I read a poem and go to the next one. Then days later I think about it and go back and vote on a large group of poems. I need something blinking at me or something so I don't forget to vote.

As has been mentioned, votes have a tendency to evaporate. Both high and low votes can disappear at the whim of the computer gods. :)

When I vote on poems I use the following scale:
5 = I wish I had written this poem.
4 = Better than average; worth reading
3 = Average poem for Lit. poets
2 = Below average; extra trite, bad metre, forced rhymes, etc.
1 = #2 with speiling erorrs. thphos. or sintaxible missteaks{ ex setera'"

This is what I have been waiting for, a SCALE on which to base my voting! (beat you to it, Xtaabay:p ) LOL!

Rybka, whatever you do, don't change your perspective! This place would be so diminished without it.

I probably vote about half the time.

Voting is a good thing. Not so much that the votes mean anything, but as a reader (and as a writer) I think of it as a forcing function to make me think about what I like and why. Opinions are a good thing.

Of course feedback is better, but voting is also a simple way to encourage good poetry and discourage the bad. (the latter part of that statement no doubt sounds harsh to some, but I make no apologies for the low votes I've occasionally poked). I say occasionally, because if it's a 1 or a 2, I'd rather just ignore it.

Rybaks's algorithm is pretty reasonable, although I'm more likely to let trite slide with a shrug or a no-vote. I reserve the lows for lazy or just plain bad.

For those shy about voting, here is my kinder-gentler algorithm:

If you sort of shrug, then let it be,
Or go ahead and poke the three.

If it gives you pause, or offers more
Then why not poke the number four.

If it quickens your pulse or feels alive
Boldly vote a big fat five.

...
Hey! I never said I voted on everything. I just gave my scale of values. :)

I'm brand new to the forum and still trying to figure out how to do the link thing to my 1st two erotic poems EVER, so bear with me. Some of these poems are SO lovely and sensual and I vote and send feedback on the ones that touch my heart. (you know who you are!) In fact, I sort of dedicated "Prelude to a Touch" to "authors everywhere". You inspired me. Thanks. His Wild Woman

I used to vote, but it seems like lately votes evaporate. So why bother. I have many that have been reset all the way to zero.
