How long does it take?

Im really new to this site and I was wondering, when you submit a story, how long until you find out if it will be posted in literotica?

By all accounts once submitted it takes about a week to get through the system and onto the site. Although this may be longer especially given the sudden influx of newbies. Having never posted a story though I'm not sure exactly what happens i.e. whether you will be notified...

Well. :D

It depends.

Poetry may take three or four days.
Stories submitted by cutting and pasting into the submission window will take seven to ten days.
Stories submitted by uploading a file take longer, up to three weeks.
Stories that contain sex with common animals won't make it in until they become human or some sort of mythical creature.
Remember that children under the age of 18 have never heard of, have any knowledge of, nor partake in sexual acts of any kind, so submissions containing children will sit in queue until their eighteenth birthday. However, on their eighteen birthday they suddenly become experts at sex even though they are still virgins.

Now, all that is true. However, you have now asked "THE" question. Unfortunately, once you ask "THE" question, the rules are completely different.

First, PM Jenny Jackson and obtain her mailing address. Do not ask for Cyber Sex. Doing so will automatically extend the wait.
Second, Fill out a check for 29.95, payable to Jenny, and send it to her along with copies of...
Your Birth Certificate,
Drivers license,
Written permission from your spouse or mother to publish sexy, erotic stories,
A notarized statement from you local sheriff that you are indeed who your drivers license says you are,
A copy of your story,
A letter apologizing for asking "THE" question.

Once all that is done, the wait is shortened from ten years to five and you can expect publication on Lit sometime before the end of 2012.

Usually 1-2 weeks, depending on what else the editors have on their plate. Submissions for contests get first priority, so if you submit a non-contest story during a contest, it may be closer to 2 weeks.

Working with a volunteer editor (you can find one through the Editor's Forum) is likely to increase your chances of being approved the first time, as they'll do their best to alert you to anything that's against the rules or likely to hold your piece up. Plus, it's likely to make it a more enjoyable read, which will make your readers happier and improve your feedback and rating. :)

I was just about to ask this. I've been here on and off for a couple years now and I just submitted my first story a few moments ago. lol Thanks for taking the time answer, everyone.

I've yet to have a submission refused, and the longest it's taken to see one of my stories on the site was a little over a week. Be patient, and it'll all be worth it.

:)

Gee. I feel like my responses to "THE QUESTION" have become almost famous.

Actually they are legendary.

However I did like my little addition: "Do not ask for Cyber Sex. Doing so will automatically extend the wait."
