How long does it take for a story to be approved?

Apologies if this is the wrong area... I posted my first story two days ago and it's sitting waiting to be approved. Approximately how long does that take? Thanks!

It depends. Newbs seem to get more scrutiny. Most of the time, three or four days.

Congratulations! Hope it does well.

Just be informed, lately there have been some reports/complaints about the process taking up to two weeks sometimes, so, if it's more than 4 days, consider just keeping waiting.

Yes. I've thirty-one stories published and I'm at seven days now. Don't sweat it, Laurel has a heavy workload. It'll happen.

I think it sometimes depends on the consistency of your writing. The more stories you post which are similar in content, the more comfortable they are in just a quick glance and approval. My stories lately have taken less than 48 hours to go from pending to approved. But that's probably because my stories are always about 40 to 50-year olds and swingers.

My next story (I just clicked "Publish") may take longer, because I'm alerting in a Note to Admin that this one contains Nonconsent material. But I caveat that by saying the woman later discloses that she enjoyed it. (But I'm still putting it in Loving Wives.)

So, it's a matter of getting the Admins comfortable that you know the rules, and you follow the rules.

As Dubinsky said "Newbs seems to get more scrutiny."

Patience. They do their best.

Stories are published somewhere around 1 am eastern US time. Every 24 hours at that time the next batch of approved stories goes live. Often stories approved to go live the next day will show as 'published' on your dashboard (even though they're still in the submitted page) with that next day's date on it. If you see that, it means that your story has passed approval.

I have nine stories. Two of them were approved and published on the very first cycle (less than 24 hours). One was approved after five days. The rest were approved on the second day.

No one really knows why some stories take longer to approve than others but there are several factors/theories that the community believes contribute.

length ~ a longer story may or may not take longer to approve

edgy themes ~ if your story has edgy themes (non-con, beastie, jailbait) and/or you have certain keywords in your story that may get flagged by the parsing software this very likely slows down the process for you

author's rep ~ if you have a history of rejections and/or edgy themes, you might get more scrutiny requiring more time ~ if you are an established writer who never ventures into the no-no areas of non-consent, bestiality and underage, you may or may not get rubber stamped ~ if you are a new writer and have no rep at all, you might get more scrutiny

contests/events ~ if you are submitting for a contest or an event and you are right under the wire for the submission deadline you may get fast tracked ~ also, if a contest/event is going on and getting lots of submissions it may push your non-contest story further back in the queue

One thing that we know for sure, if you submit and then edit your submission, your story will take longer to publish.

I submitted my story for the 2nd time on the 13th and it was rejected again for false accusations of AI usage today, so almost 2 weeks for a response seems to be the norm. Be prepared for a process full of frustration.

My story ... basically true.
It's probably not a good idea to start your stories with "This is a true story."

Right away, you're turning off some readers by making it sound like a drunk in a bar arguing as he tells a "big fish" story: "No! No! I swear, REALLY, it was THIS big!" (stretching his arms out wide.)

EDIT: I can honestly say NONE of my stories are true. A few, at best, are stories based somewhat on real life experiences, but embellished to enhance the entertainment value.

You can write true stories, you just can't use the title or description to say so. You're definitely allowed to say in the story body that it's true. No rules about how far down it has to be - at the start is fine.

Tags? I guess they don't mind even though the rule says not to do that either.

How long does it take? As little as 26 hours for some.

I clicked "Publish" yesterday, and this just showed "New", going public tomorrow morning.

The speed of approval is probably due to my consistency in writing LW stories of mature couples and sharing, with nothing approaching underage sex, bestiality, or violent rape.

Now in this story, I provided a "Note to Admin" that there are references to a recent noncon event (she was abducted and the opening shows her still having nightmares of her ordeal), but the note advises that the wife later admits she enjoyed it. So, the approval time probably depends on their comfort level with the author.

it is truly the way I remember it :) Thanks for the feedback

People always talk about new writers getting more scrutiny, which may be true, but i also think different catagories get different scruitny.

Example, anal has less stories, taboo has a lot. So it makes sense that taboo gets approved a lot faster, to prevent a massive backlog.

Another reason why my stories might be approved faster is the Admins like fucking with the LW trolls, too!

But I/T also has a lot more stories being submitted, so even a greater effort put reviewing them could still result in delays compared to other categories. That this is not the case in I/T would suggest the category gets preferential treatment, resulting in shorter review time despite larger amount of traffic.

Which, come to think of it, makes perfect sense. This is where the reader traffic is, too, and presumably where a large chunk of ad revenue is coming from.
