How Entitled Do You Feel?

What does life owe you, and who pays for it?

I was over at the Dollar Store earlier. I wanted some Oreos but not too many Oreos; the dollar store sells them in a size that's more than a snack but less than a bag....12 cookies.

At the checkout I was behind a woman paying for her stuff with her welfare money. To make a long story short she fucked up her order, didn't have enough welfare money to pay for it, and dropped a fistful of change on the floor. After she collected the change and gave it to the cashier, she was still short. So she looks at me and says, pay her.

I woulda paid. A few bucks isn't a big deal for me and I'm happy to help when I can.

If I would have seen that scenario and the women had been truly unable to pay and was in the process of putting something back she could not afford, I would have offered to pay in a split-second.

For that woman to look at me and TELL me to pay for her stuff, I would have shared with her that I could not do that. I would have told her she would have to put something back.

BIG difference in WANTING to help someone because it is the kind thing to do and being TOLD to help someone because that person thinks I should!

If she had necessities I could see it. If candy, sodas, cookies, cigarettes, etc NO WAY.

Even with necessities, if she TOLD me to do it...no way. If she ASKED, then yes, with the necessities.

I work at a pregnancy test center. I could share story after story of women coming in and demanding things from us. We are non profit, work through donations only. To come in and demand anything from us is such a crock.

So many who think they are so entitled.......just astounding!!!

I didn't get a look at what she bought, it was bagged when I got in line. First impression I guessed she was stoopid, but then I saw a purse fulla coupons, and after she had difficulty collecting the change off the floor, I guessed she was disabled but not conspicuously crippled...maybe arthritis. She walked out the door okay.

Naaah, I kicked in the change, it was less than a buck, and I did it for my convenience as I feared we might stay put for a while if I didn't. Her attitude annoyed me but I don't know where it comes from, and my default position is my blessed convenience. Kids are a different story. They never have enough money, Obama cant print enough money for what a kid wants. I also credit every kid for one free broken window. First one's on me.

You stand the strain of "the burden" well. Only ever as far as we can carry them.

I have a very curious delusion about such things; I believe God puts them in my path to test me. Ditto cigarette butts and dog shit. Several years ago I drove by a school bus stop at the same time a rattlesnake crawled beneath a shrub at the bus stop. It was like God sayin, THIS OUGHTA SLOW YOUR ASS DOWN, JIMBO. NOW WACHA GONNA DO ABOUT IT?
