How do you tell someone you're a smut writer?

Lol.

So my fairy story is a hit apparently, and I was bragging to my mom about how much people liked it. Well she wanted to read it... so I gave her the first part (which is very clean) now she wants to read the rest (o.o!)

Soooo ummm how do I explain I'm a smut writer? XD :catroar:

Who else is "clean" who else is still hiding?

Lol!

I don't tell people, except my closest friends. It's none of their business. But if your mother wants to read the story, I'd just give it to her with no apologies. Surely she has read erotica before. Writing it well is a gift!

If it comes up in conversation, it comes up.

I think most everyone who is close to me knows I write here. There's a link to it in my blog, and even my daughter's read my stuff.

I'm out.

Me too. Hell, my oldest son's a member here, but he hasn't read any of my stories, tho - too much squick factor, I think, since mom wrote them. His friends have, though. One of them apparently acts like I'm the Stephen King of porn, and begs to meet me...very flattering. :D

Heh, yeah, there's crossover for me mostly for people I meet in games...and then come read this stuff because of my blog.

It's fun.

Just act like it's nothing to be ashamed of. If you seem embarrassed so will everyone else be.

Mrs. Alien knows, of course, but our friends and family? I'm not sure why they'd really care. Apropos of mothers, however, I did get this public comment on one story:

You mean it's done?

This is the only story from this site that I have copied and converted to PDF and sent to almost everyone I know (LOL didn't send links because I didn't need people knowing about my literary tastes). I apologize to the author for editing the version of the story I sent to my mother, for her I had to remove the sex scenes (LOL).

Thank you very much!

Maybe this person can set up a service for us.

My whole family know I write, my sister is the only one to know I write erotica and she doesn't want ot know anything more, thanks :p

My real life friends don't know, bar one who came across a website of mine with stories and pics (my goodness that was embarassing *L*) but if it came up in conversation, I'd tell them -their jaws would drop to the ground!

I don't hide it, but I don't proclaim it to every person I meet, either :D

I'm out, for the most part. Most of my family and friends are pretty open-minded. Though, I've got all the hyper-religious, self-righteous people in the family on a need-to-know basis. They don't need to know. ;)

Oh, I did have one person from the online gaming community go batshit. But she's already crazy. She's been batshit crazy about me for 15 years, so this just gave her a new "smut" angle.

Accused me of being unfaithful, of being a horrible wife, accused me of all manner of things, all of which I checked with my husband. As long as he's fine with it - and that's the deal, I come here, I write, but I write in general and not AT anybody (can't even cyber with Stella, which to me is a huge blow...) I meet the deal commitments.

But everyone else's opinion about open sexuality is sure...interesting.

person: What do you do for a living?

me: I'm a writer.

person: Oh, wow! What do you write?

me: erotica

person: Oh! Oooooooooooh! *blushes & changes the subject*

First, it has to come up in conversation. Usually it is me forcing it into the conversation for the sole purpose of admitting that I am a smut writer. I've admitted it to most people that I know.

I think only my best friend has read any of my stories though.

I talk pretty freely about it--I don't even put a sensitive face on it.

"So, what kind of hobbies do you have?"

"I'm a pornographer."

"You... make porno?"

"Well, I write smut, yeah. Know a lot of other authors, too. Its fun."

"Like... adult sex stories?"

"Yup. Its really satisfying."

I've never had to tell anyone, my kid sister thinks it's fun to embarrass the hell out of me and tell people I write porn. She likes the shock value I think. Those that read my work though usually come back for more so I guess it's not a bad thing.

My online friends KNOW about it, but only one of them has actually bothered to read it, and only a select few actually know where I post it. Most of the time it's a running gag about my "girl pr0n".

However, with my family, sex is one of those "touchy" subjects. My aunt, granny, my sister and brother will just blurt their entire sex lives out to anyone and every one. (mostly my granny just likes to chase people around with condoms)

My mom has always been very conservative about it, and I have picked up on that from her. I do not talk about sex with other people I have to LOOK at. Which has always been a problem between my husband and I because he thinks everyone and their retarded uncle should know about our sex lives. I can't even look at his sister or his best friend because I KNOW he has told them things and it bothers me to no end. I will avoid going near them at any and all costs.

So... letting my family read my stuff just bothers me... even if it was my sister or my brother, given how blaze they are about it all. I just can't.

I can post it here cause I don't ever have to look you people in the face :p (no offense)

But mom is poking me to read the rest of this "popular story" -.-;;;;;

Just about everyone I work with -- employees and managers -- know what I write and where I post my stories. I refrain from telling the majority of my guests, of course, because quite a few of them might get insulted.

But then, from time to time, I hand out a business card . . . that's always interesting ;)

Hadn't really considered telling many of my friends. I don't think a lot of them would be terribly interested. One friend knows I frequent this site, I've mentioned it, but never said specifically that I write stories. I don't know why. They all know I write so I guess I kind of assumed they'd figure that I do write about sex at some point. I've talked to my mother about erotica before because I like the stories, I have a few books. I guess I just kind of keep it separate.

No way in hell would I let anyone know what I write. It is on a need to know basis and most people don't need to know.

My dentist knows; my optician knows; I don't make a secret of it but I don't advertise it either.

My AV shows me in costume. That photo is on a tourist leaflet giving my real name (in small print).

Well... since very few of my stories have much in the way of sex in them (with a couple of exceptions) I just don't worry about it. My stories have most likely less sex than most mainstream print fiction.

If someone wants to call me a porn writer they are welcome to do so. I've been called worse.

It's not that I hide it on purpose. It simply doesn't really come up much in conversations. If someone ask me what my favorite hobbies are, the answer would be something like this.

Music
Sailing
Acting
Writing...
...stage plays
...poetry
...politic stuff
...non-smut fiction
...smut fiction

By the time I get to poetry, people are generally sick and tired of hearing me talk about myself.

I quite often mention that I "...talked about that with people on a porn forum on the Internat yesterday..." though. Haven't had any weird reactions to it so far.

As said, if it comes up in conversation, I tell people.

But I often make sure it comes up. ;)

The only RL person who knows about me is my hairdresser. I can tell her anything. The only other people who know are my online friends.

Im in

I think that if I told the response would be negative. The warrior keeps wanting to tell everyone though. I guess it is cool to have a smut writer to brag about...

We were just at a family party last week and one of the cousins point blank asked me what I've been doing since I retired a couple of years ago (real answer -- wrote and published four novels and recorded five of my piano sonatas) -- I gave my wife a long stare -- paused -- and the conversation drifted on to something else.

It's fun having a secret identity -- but is does cut down on bragging rights. Maybe that's a good thing.
