How do you explain the rabid mob mentality that infuses this place at times?

This is just a thought that occurred to me while reading zipman's thread on cliques.

The point as I understand it has to do with the fact that we all belong to smaller, inner circles within the crop circle that is literotica.

There have been those who tend to flit from one inner circle to the next without ever really putting down roots...there are those who put down roots with one circle and rarely venture out to see the others.

How is it that these people infect each other with a rabid mob feeling when something or someone tweaks them? How do these people automatically find each other? Are there PMs going on between people that you never see interact out in public?

I don't think the rabid mob represents a clique as it was defined in zipman's thread...I think it represents something else entirely but I am at a loss as to what that would be.

Cliques by there very nature are restrictive. Why limit yourself to one group or another, by doing so you limit your own potential.

I'm not sure, but I don't believe that I belong to one of these cliques. Don't think I ever have.

LOL... could it be that there's a common denominator between a lot of the people at Lit whether they actually communicate with each other or not?

We're intelligent, outspoken people, as a rule. We don't suffer dumbasses lightly. We enjoy poking at people with sticks. The ones who can't take it, and cry clique or 'stop picking on me!' or change their names and come back (and that's not just a jab at you, Mia) get poked at more often.

CE and I have been talking offline about cliques. Zip posted about cliques... is that a 'mob mentality'?

Lavy and I have posted very similar threads after conversations. She gets flamed, I don't. Neither of us knew the other was posting.

The idea that anyone is orchestrating anything is absurd.

Cliques are restrictive but rabid mobs aren't?

Yes. Mob mentality is something that by definition infuses the masses. Cliques by definition encompass the few.

There are reasons why we get along better with, tend to befriend certain people and how we tend to hang with some people more than others. We just click with them. This isn't any different than our real lives in that way.

I pm with quite a few people that I never post with here on the board. Sometimes it occurs because you read something they say and you pm them with a comment because you might not feel comfortable posting it. And vice versa.

I normally post fluff but that doesn't mean that I don't read the more serious threads.

As for the rabid mob mentality, it's played out by not just one or two groups. We all have strong feelings on certain subjects, our own ideas and thoughts on matters.. some are alike in this. So they will of course have the same opinions.

Ok...then how do the few get hooked up with the mob? Wouldn't "belonging" to a clique automatically mean that one resists infusion?

I don't know if anyone orchestrates the mob...but at times, it seems odd that those who are diametrically opposed to others 95% of the time actually are able to find a hand to hold onto in the mob.

Cliques, selective segregation,and clubs...

It's just like the world represented in a smaller circle of people with shared intrests and beliefs. Like a clan tribe, they can fight with each other, and talk shop, but still be buddies. It's a bonding thang.

No, it would mean that one resists infusing others. lol

Being instilled with a mob mentality circumvents "cliques". One really has nothing to do with the other. The proverbial witch hunt, high brow and low brow, united in a cause, be it right or wrong, the target of the mob.

My shoulder itches

I think it's that string that's sticking out of my back. Could someone pull it for me, please?

Oh, never mind, sunstruck. Good response, plasticman.

I think it's just entertainment and have learned not to take it seriously! Some threads are started just to stir people up.

Hannsy, you're full of shit today!

Anytime a so-called "shit disturber" gets a thread going that draws page after page of empassioned responses that break into personal insults....I'd say a nerve has been touched.

That nerve is commonality...most often something people just don't want to admit about themselves or their motivations for being here.

Zipman's Clique discussion.

Many of Hanns' early threads.

Lavender's thread on naivete as a university student.

Anything that suggests "fat"....JazzManJim's Bitch Tits, for example.

Any thread about cyber sex and infidelity.

The First Amendment.

Homosexulaity & Bisexuality.

BDSM when raised on the GB.

Anything about Bush/Iraq & Oil or American imperialism.

Unregistered/Multiple ID's.....

etc.

Are you going to suddenly turn around, if I do? ;-)

I'm just impressed that CB's abortion thread hasn't turned into a shitstorm.
