To Everyone: How Do Owners Profit...

from running a site like Lit? It seems an inordinate amount of work and when I look over the "front page", it's hard for me to see what makes it worth it. But then I surely don't understand it all either...I see other sites that have advertising...and they get a cut when consumers access those businesses from the website. I don't see that here on the forums. And surely it's not profit from the selling of the books generated exclusively or the PPV since there is so much free porn on the net now...So what IS it then?

What makes it lucrative to run a website like this? And what are some good resources on the subject of successful internet website management?

If this thread belongs in another section of Lit, please put it there. I wasn't sure where to post it!

Leverage...could you comment on this when you get some time to?

Thank you in advance!

Internet marketing - affiliates, adsense, info products, lead generation, joint ventures, list marketing, niche marketing...

Learn copywriting...the art of writing using psychological principles of influence to get somebody to take a desired call to action - this is probably the most valuble skill to have.

- Traditional direct marketing principles and how to apply them to the online space

- How to play the adwords/ppc game

- S.E.O and other traffic generation methods

- Testing to find out exactly whats working so you can keep doing it and whats not working so you can stop doing it

- How to increase click through's and conversion rates

- E-mail capture and marketing to build a relationship with those who dont buy from from you initially to get them to buy later

- And a load of other stuff...but you get the picture a ton of things.

I don't know exactly how Laurel and Manu work but look at it like this...every visitor to a web page is worth some money and it is your job as an internet marketer to work out the best way to monetize a page impression...you can do it by adsense(or other contextual ads), affiliate marketing trying to get them to buy someones product or service and you get a cut, trying to sell your own product (physical or informational), lead generation by capturing their info and selling it to companies (you have to make it clear to the page visitor that you are passing on their details though), trying to get them to join your membership/subscription programme, or capturing their email and sending them a series of follow up mails designed to A)Build a relationship with them and B)Sell them a series of related products.

Also fortunes are literally being made meaning alot of big players with deep pockets are being attracted to the space making it harder, much more competitive and driving up the cost of entry...I predict that in two years it will be almost impossible for a regular dude to come into the market and make it...you might be able to make a little pocket money but making six/seven figures online in ya bedroom will become alot rarer...but in the next 18 months there is tremendous oppourtunity. Granted, I'm NO expert on the subject, just fortunate enough to have a couple of friends in the game and being able to pick up a little pocket change in the meantime.

Peace...

Thank you Leverage and Yoshimitsu! I'm not looking to get into this business or anything, I was just curious more particularly about Lit than in general I guess. Reading here what you said/linked help me see the front page and the offerings there in a different light a bit...so I guess I see a bit more how it's being done here.

I do wonder though how much this site is worth...Whois should say something about that...think I'll go check! :D

Very odd googling my own ID and seeing almost 1800 references to poppy1963 on google....just weird and wild to think EVERYONE out there is on the internet like that...well almost everyone I guess there are some who aren't...listing Lit and other forums I have participated in at times.

I guess that can be both a marketters dream and nightmare...lol.

thankfully my nick got popular with fanboys and media a while I adopted it

as for how they make it work
you see all the VOD and cam shows they have on the main page?
more people use them than you'd think

plus server costs can be as low as 150/month after the server it self is paid for, which if you look long enough can be about 3500USD for one that'll host Lit pretty easily
