How do I get the attention of the webmasters?

Hi, Gang,

I'm a long time author but I haven't visited the forums for years. Hoping one of you can help me with a couple problems. I discovered a year or more ago that the private message system on Literotica doesn't work for me. Private messages that I send don't get delivered. I confirmed this by sending a private message to myself. Wasn't delivered.

I've sent several messages to webmaster@literotica.com about this, but I never get any reply. :(

Now I've got another problem, but there's no point in trying to communicate with an email address that is apparently not being monitored. So here's my question:

How to I get the attention of the webmasters?

Thanks

E-mail hasn't worked here since before I joined. To contact the Webmaster, send a Private Message (PM) (upper right corner of this page) to Manu. The editor is Laurel, if you want to send one to her too.

There's probably a trap that prevents you from sending a PM to yourself ( unless you sent it to an alternate pen name or something )

I'm going to send you a PM and see if we can't diagnose things. ( Instructions in the PM )

PMs can be sent to yourself. I've done that before and just checked too. It worked.

Hmmm, I guess I misread the OP. Can't very well answer a problem with PMs by suggesting sending a PM, can you? Sorry.

In your User CP, go to Edit Options, and under the area where you can enable Private Messaging, make sure that the next check box, which says "Receive Private Messages only from Buddies and Moderators" is NOT checked.

Some people have had that box checked and didn't realize it.

Got your PM and sent you a link that will take you directly to where you can send a message to Laurel :)

Thanks but

Thanks for the replies, but I only realized from Darkniciad's reply that there are actually two PM systems on Literotica. There's one that's inside the forums, but there's also one in Literotica itself. If you navigate to some user's profile page and click the Contact tab, you can send a message to the email address they have on file for their Literotica profile. It is this system that is not working for me. Whenever I use it, I get two more or less contradictory messages on screen simultaneously. One says that my message was sent successfully, but the other says
"Your actions have triggered our anti spam protection system. Your IP address and message have been logged. If you are sending commercial or harassing messages, we will take appropriate action. Using our feedback system to promote other sites or any products or services is strictly prohibited. It is also a violation of most ISP's T.O.S. If you belive this is an error by our spam software, please contact the webmaster and your name will be removed from the ban list. The system does make mistakes sometimes. Thanks. -Literotica Webmaster"

As I mentioned before these messages do not go through, despite what the first response message says and contacting the webmaster doesn't work. There's never a response.

A few of us have been not-so-delicately pointing out the umpteen dead email links for some time. I'm kind of surprised that they haven't been taken care of.

Most of the other types of contacts ( bug reports, spam reports, etc. ) are working through a database driven system similar to the PM system here on the forum. I really don't know why the rest of the contact links haven't been shifted over to that, since it should be as simple as replacing the links and perhaps adding a row or two to the database table ( or a new database table ) to account for new "from" locations and informational drop-downs.

What can we do *shrug* We just keep giving people directions on how to send PMs, since that's the only way you can actually contact Laurel or Manu and have it reach them, and saying, "You know, this would be a hell of a lot less hassle for people if those dead links weren't there, and it sure would result in a lot less pissed off people who think the website is ignoring them."

Lately, like in the past week, private message was not getting forwarded to my outside email.

Search has been iffy for quite a few years.

My initial response to your topic was "take down the site" but that isn't nice or legal.

Ah, so I wasn't wrong. You did mean the e-mail system not the private mail system. Yes, the e-mail system has never worked as long as I've been here; yes, it should be just taken down if it's not going to be functional so that the users aren't constantly--and justifiably--asked about this; yes, there are frequent user complaints about this; no, there doesn't seem to be any effort by the Web site to do clean this--and a lot of other nonfunctioning elements up.

Emails sent from my contact page seem to work just fine. I recently received two different comments on one of my older stories. I was a little surprised to receive them at this late date.

My e-mail works fine--both sending and receiving. It doesn't get used often, but every once in a while I get something and I when I occasionally send something it goes through.

I have a different thought about this problem. I used to participate on a different website with a similar style of BB posting forum. Occasionally the website would block someone, usually as a result of complaints from other users. When that happened, all users with the same ISP that originated from the same node were also blocked. That site blocked users for a week, and so it was not unusual for users who had done absolutely nothing wrong to find themselves blocked due to the conduct of someone else in close proximity. It happened to me on two or three occasions. Only the actual offender received notification; everyone else was collateral damage.

Have you tried stripping off naked, jumping up and down, and waving your arms?

It probably won't work but a few around here will appreciate the visual. :D

Please do not be giving Manu or this board software any more ideas...

still no joy

Well, for one brief shining moment I had Laurel's attention. The forum private message worked. She told me that the webmaster@literotica.com address initially redirects to Spamarrest which sends the user an email reply that they need to reply to in order to prove that they are human. After the user replies to Spamarrest, their email is put on a white list and they can then email webmaster directly.
I told her that that doesn't work for me. I get no reply from Spamarrest, not even to my junk email folder. I asked her 6 days ago to manually put me on the white list, but I've gotten no response from her. :(

I'm also still wondering why I get the error message when I try to send a message to a user with the other user's Contact tab.

Two people do Literotica. Laurel handles the story stuff, Manu handles the techie stuff. I don't know which is the official webmaster or if they both consider themselves such.

I do know that their preferred method of contact by users is via Private Messages {PM} sent from these forums. Their email addys are spam ridden and therefore ignored. As you noted in one of your earlier posts, they eschew the webmaster address also.

Send Laurel a PM from this forum with whatever is on your mind, or just go away mad. I don't think anyone here cares which one you do, since you have been displaying a determined stupidity since your original post.

Well, it is true, TruthAndLove, that you're the one who's going to have to adjust on this free-use site if you want to use it. The Web administrators are up to their eyeballs with work in providing you free services--but they do it on their own terms, and likely are going to continue to do it that way despite your efforts to train them to your preferences. Maybe if you sent them a hefty check . . .

Wow, Tyro... That was rather uncalled for. I for one will say you don't speak for me with that blanket dismissal.

When the FAQs and links redirect to places that are sketchy or worthless as contact points for the website, it's only natural that people will come here confused. While it's frustrating to field those questions all the time, it's not the fault of the people who've fallen victim to it.

The OP has remained calm despite an extremely aggravating issue, and that's a hell of a lot more than can be said for most people who come here with this question.

Guess you read it differently than I did, Dark. I read a lot of "I'm going to continue to complain until you give me the service I think I deserve."

Doesn't often go over big on a free-use Web site.

Of course we get a lot of that from some of the regulars too.

No, I didn't read it that way. I see frustration, but I also see it handled with relative calm.

Compared to the half-page walls of text full of ALL CAPS and four letter words that typically represent someone who's had no luck contacting the website through the methods they've been erroneously directed to, I consider this rather refreshing, and something to encourage.

Would that we could encourage Laurel and Manu to take a time out and to clean this place up. It would be rough for postings to be on hold, but it would be good for us to know how difficult cleanup is. And it would be worth it in the long run for the regular users to be freer of these standard questions on why the Web site wasn't working as advertised. (Not to mention those who don't bother to read even the still-correct FAQs in front of their faces.)

Still, I didn't see this one as you have. I didn't see acceptance that it was the way it was going to be if the poster wanted to use the Web site.

It is apparently the way it's going to be if we want to use the Web site, and there isn't a damn thing the other users can do for any of these complainers just repeating their complaints.

Not holding my breath for the contact listings to get fixed :p

To the OP: You actually have one problem only loosely connected to the website. Somehow, your IP or email address has ended up in the spam database that Lit uses to filter emails. That's why you can't contact other members through the "contact" tab of the website.

Odds are that it's there erroneously, or maliciously. With the name of the database provided by Laurel, it may be possible to protest through the service's website and get your listing removed, thus solving that problem. Most of those databases understand that things end up there that really shouldn't be, and have a means to address removal requests.

It could also point to current or past hacking/spoofing of your email address, which may require some attention as well. That's something you may be able to discover by visiting the website of the database.

Odds are that this is the correct URL to begin that quest:

http://www.spamarrest.com/

Thanks

I had come to the same conclusion. I'll try my luck with Spamarrest, but I'm not hopeful. I suspect that they're going to have to hear from Literotica, which is after all their client.

And thanks for being rational, polite, and helpful.
