How do I get a response from the editors?

I submitted a story, actually a series of 3 stories. The middle of the second chapter was cut off in the middle of a sentence by Literotica. I had previewed the story several times to make sure it was fine.

Because of this, the story looked stupid and needless to say it was voted down as compared to my other stories and the other two chapters.

I resubmitted the story and it was corrected after a week, even though I e-mailed Laura the very day the story came out incorrectly.

I had asked Laura if she would please re-zero my vote total as it was Literotica's mistake that caused them to go low.

It was been a week and my e-mail has not been responded to, and I still have a low score due to their error.

How does one correct this situation so I can have some justice?

I hate to upset you further but isn't it a bit lame to think a story's score is low because of an uptake error where a sentence was cut off in the middle? My sense is that readers are not stupid and their eyes would naturally follow onto the next line. Yes, they would realise that there was a spacing error but truly I doubt that it would interfere with their enjoyment of the story in the long run.

If the error was so bad that lines and lines of text were lost ( which doesn't seem to be the case in this instance, judging from your post) then surely they would just click back and not finish the story. I find it difficult to believe readers would intentionally vote someone down because of this. Such a small percentage of readers vote anyway that for them to do so out of deliberate spite seems unlikely especially if they were reading all the chapters.

As for the request to resubmit an edited version, I think that takes about as long as a 'normal' submission because it just joins the queue with the dozens of other stories submitted. I can't comment on how long it takes to set the score to zero ( or even if that can be done) but again that doesn't make sense to me since those people who have already read and voted on the story are unlikely to come back and read/vote on it again.

I'm really not trying to be nasty, but while I understand your frustration, I think it's poor form to launch an attack on Laurel and the Lit site for something that seems quite trivial.

I can only speak for myself, but after 10 submissions and some resubmissions for edited versions I have never had any problems.

All they would have to do was to delete the old story an re-submit it as a new story. Yes I do believe it was voted down because it ended in an incomplete sentence. It is the lowest score of the 17 stories I have published to this date. It is hardly lame. It is by far a better story than chapter 1.

The story was viewed 16 times prior to publication, yet it was cut off in the middle of a sentence.

This is the first time this has happened to me too. But it did happen. Asking that my score be re-zeroed and the story resubmitted as new, this time in its entirety is not much to ask for. Nor is it too much to ask the editor to give her writers enough respect to reply to their e-mails when she has made a mistake. This is just plain common courtesy. Had she done this, and it has been a week, I would not of had to resort to the forum where the masses who think they know what happened can comment. Believe me, I didn't want to make a post, but with no response, what else can I do?

Trivial-perhaps, but only because erotic literature is trivial.

Tammy,

If you are making a reasonable request I am sure Laurel will get back to you either affirmitively or negatively. However you need to show some patience. There is a story competition coming up, there are submisions waiting in the que, and probably two dozen requests for her time and attention waiting in her in box.

She is the webmistress, but she isn't a miracle worker. While I know your request is very important to you and seems like something that could be done quickly and easily, I assure you everyone else feels the same way about theirs. Just like all of us with submissions pending would like to see them posted. And everyone entering the holiday competition is in a raging hurry to get their story up so they have as much time as possible to garner the neccessary votes.

There are a great many demands on her time and I would urge you to factor in what all she must deal with and exercise a good deal of patience.

Tammy -

Colly is exactly right.

You aren't submitting your stories to a bank of editors, you know. You are sending them to Laurel. She is the webmistress, she is the person who reads everything.

Mistakes do happen and she is usually very accessible when needed.

But there are certain times of the year when Laurel is much busier (such as now - setting up 2003 story and poem voting categories, getting ready for the Valentine's Day contest, etc).

If you emailed her, I doubt she can get through the pile of mail she undoubtedly receives each day to locate your message.

PM her. I have written her on several occasions regarding story theft and with questions about feedback not working properly (that one turned out to be my fault - lol) and she has responded to me within several hours each time.

Good luck!

Thank you Colly and Sweetsubsarahh (I love that handle) for the kind response. It has been a week. Laura fixed the story, but never reset the votes so I assumed she had washed her hands of the whole situation.

I do not enter contests as they would make me a nervous wreck.

Readers do downgrade a story if you post it in a group sex catagory and there is no group sex in it. They feel cheated. This is what happened when my story was cut off in the middle of a sentence.

xoxoxo

Here's an idea:

Forget about it! Move on! Write another damn story! Write a better story!

It is truly one of the biggest wastes of time to complain about voting scores.

Move along, nothing to see here. If it's got a stinky score because of a reason beyond your control, write some more stories and your readers will realise you're a good writer.

Who's Laura?
It's LAUREL -- shouldn't you at least try to get her name right when you communicate with her or talk about her?

It is a problem that can and should be corrected. It doesn't matter how good a story I write if the editor is only going to print half of it. Until the problem is resolved I will not be submitting any more stories to this web site.

Wow! You do have yourself in a snit, don't you? This is none of my business, (Hell, I don't even write! I just read the stuff) but don't you think it's a bit much? This is a free site. Laurel is kind enough to run it, to read the stories, to post the stories, to run the contests, and to respond to PMs. She fixed your story and you're now in a full blown pout & threatening not to submit more?!?

The problem was resolved. You said already that she corrected your story. No one can say for sure that is the reason you received some low votes and, even if it is, she has a lot to do right at this moment running this free site.

The problem was not resolved. The other two chapters had votes of 4.60 and 4.61. This story followed the same formula and got a 4.20. This is the lowest scores of all my stories. All I ask is that the slate be cleared on this story and it be submitted as a new story since only half of it (the part with no sex) was published. I can say exactly why it was voted down because I read my e-mails. I get 30 to 200 e-mails per story when published, in addition I average 1-2 per day when I have no stories on the new list. I also inform my readers via a newsletter (130+ readers)when my stories are published- what parts are fictional, what parts are real and where the puns are located. I sometimes include photos. I have a loyal base of fans who like my stories and are up front and honest with me. All I ask of the webmistress is enough courtesey and respect to "talk" to me herself via e-mail over this matter.

Where the puns are located?

I hope my fan base can spot a pun when they see one. Not much fun in reading mine if they can't spot puns, mainly because I don't use them, that way I don't have to point them out.

I'll gladly point out any sarcasm you (or your fans) may have missed in this post though.

Gauche

Edited to add a hint about the sarcasm: From "Where..." to "...though."

A new record, two edits for typoes and one for a word change

Hmmmmm

I was thinking of publishing a fan newsletter for my fan base, but they both live in the same house as me so there didn't seem much point.

Everyone's said it Tammy, Laurel's a busy lady, just be patient or resubmit the lot.

What the hell's wrong with 4.20 anyway, a lot of folks barely make 3. Voting's misleading as well so don't pin your fame on it.

Who cares that much about their score?

You write because you love to write and want to speak to the world.

I know that as author's we care that we can score well with our readers, but give it a rest about technical difficulties.

Sheeeze, if you care that much about your score maybe you should consider the NBA as an alternative form of self gratification.

Well I look at my writing this way Jmt, I'm not sure others do.

Okay I'll try to sort that response out

If the universe was created in six days that means that for a billion plus years we have struggled to figure it out.

I might mention that Carl Sagan was a freak by the way.

Now we all have our little stories on literotica and some how think that we might be famous or even wilder.....Paid money!

Wow what a concept, I'm all for it.

But since the Pulitzer folks don't spend much time here I guess that we are cast to live out our humdrum lives hoping for a good score from the readers.

I spend about as much time on that fantasy as winning the lottery!!

Look all I’m saying is don’t take your writing that serious, Hello?

Score, Who cares that much? Will it pay my rent? Will I be able to buy some beer and smokes?

No I don’t think so.

I understand your frustration with the system messing up your score.

But ask your self this, “In one hundred years what will it matter?”

What I was referring to was your comment about self-gratification. I find writing to be very satisfying. I find writing smut to be self-satisfying... I also find some people self-satisfied but I do try to not be smug.

Hi,

I understand what you are saying and I was only trying to give some way ward advice to T.

Live long and prosper!

10 cyberbucks says that the problem gets fixed and TT never bothers to come back here to tell us so.

You finally finished the extra room for me to move in? *smooch*

Whisp :rose:

Ps. You keep saying email Tammy.....Laurel rarely responds to email. You have to PM her about Literotica issues.....

Typoes or typos?

Oh, and Tammy, see whisp's ps. :)

Alternatively, you can remove your own story by re-sbumitting it and writing DELETE next to the title and then submitting it again. That will set the vote counter to zero.
