How Did Harry Reid Get Rich?
His career in public service has ended up being remarkably lucrative.

Try this thought experiment. Imagine that someone grows up in poverty, works his way through law school by holding the night shift as a Capitol Hill policeman, and spends all but two years of his career as a public servant. Now imagine that this person’s current salary — and he’s at the top of his game — is $193,400. You probably wouldn’t expect him to have millions in stocks, bonds, and real estate.

But, surprise, he does, if he’s our Senate majority leader, whose net worth is between 3 and 10 million dollars, according to OpenSecrets.org.

I've seen four or five different attempts at Harry Reid whisper campaigns recently. It's strange; he only runs for reelection in one state. I have assumed his Romney accusation was just political nonsense, but these trial balloons have me wondering if he's not closer to home than Romney and the R's would like.

He's been in the Senate for 26 years, and I think the salary for a Senator has been over $100,000 that entire time. It adds up.

Dont insult us

OK?

yes.....it adds up

IF

he didnt pay ANY TAXES nor spent one dime

DONT INSULT US

It's all thanks to Compound Interest . . . .

He didn't get elected until he was well into his 40s. He may have accumulated some wealth prior to that.

I don't think there's anything especially suspicious about his alleged net worth, in other words. And if his opponents believe otherwise (I didn't read the link), they're welcome to present the evidence.

And I see you've hauled out your old alt as a reaction to the laudable fact that no one talks to you anymore. Good idea!

*iggy*

If I had an alt, it wouldn't talk exactly like my main and have the same offensive siggy as my main name and it would handle things differently than my main name. You know so that people wouldn't catch on.

All Harry did was say, "The Emperor pays no taxes."

It's strange how many people were upset by that, when it would be so easy to prove him wrong.

You are incorrect

He has a history of shady land deals

and you can IGGY me

My ideas will not die

Of course, they all do it. But that was in Nevada. This is national. He's not running for anything national. I have to believe there's a reason his credibility needs to be called into question right about now...

I agree with this, but I have to say: it's the same rhetorical construct that brought us, "All Obama needs to do is provide additional proof that he wasn't born in Kenya."

Or how about proving that the world is round. Or that we have been to the Moon. Or that is the Virgin Mother on my bagel.

Keep you meat hooks off of my bagel.

Maybe Romney could provide a pic of himself signing his 1040.

Romney made it an issue by not doing what all other candidates did without making a fuss. It didn't help that his spokesmen and other apologists claimed he did what was "standard" for a candidate.

Right coach:D

I agree again, and I'll go further and say it's OBVIOUSLY an issue, or he'd just release them. But...I do think the "Candidate X can make the problem go away just by doing Y" is a slippery slope, even on the side of the angels. It allows your opponent to wave you around like a puppet at will, at its extreme.

Again, all in in context of: clearly the dummy has had some very good accountants over the years, and knows there is potentially less good to come from showing his returns than from stonewalling and hiding them.

Not to mention that he doesn't run for reelection until 2016.

Republicans want to waste energy on tilting that windmill... now? Uh...ok?

I don't remember any details, but Reid got a substantial payoff when a property he hadn't owned for years got sold.

I guess not too many of you read the article...

When Harry Reid entered the Nevada legislature in 1982, his net worth was listed as between $1 million and $1.5 million “or more,” according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

But, surprise, he does, if he’s our Senate majority leader, whose net worth is between 3 and 10 million dollars, according to OpenSecrets.org.

And guess who has never disclosed a tax return?
