how can you tell the gender of a cat?

seriously. my friend has a kitten, about 6 months old, but we cant figure out if it's a boy or a girl (sounds bad I know). the thing has 6 nipples across its chest and all, but looking between the legs has left us both really confused.





I feel so dumb asking this

Lift the tail. If it looks like a semi-colon ; it's a female. If it looks like a colon : it's a male.

Nope, and it works. Just hold the cat away from you. Not to close. Many things are better seen from a distance.

I mean .. they're cats .. does it really matter?

(but, normally, you can tell by the stuff under the tail .. m/f have slight differences.)

But seriously... three? That's a boy, hon. I'm as sure as I can be without getting to see for myself.

Kittens don't exactly have pronounced penises... it's just a little puff of furry stuff, really. You can't *see* it.
