Considering the use of Viagra recreationally--but don't know what I'm getting into. I'm concerned that it might result in my losing my ability to get my usual daily rounds of spontaneous erections? Anybody had any experience with this?

Does it facilitate repeated orgasms or just a constant hard-on?

Ladies or Gentlemen?

OK, I'm NOT a doctor. My understanding of the whole process...
When you're tuened on minute amounts of nitrus oxide are released into the blood stream and specifically affect vaso-congestive tissue. There are muscles in the base of the penis which are kept open. When vaso-congestion starts these muscles are closed (relaxed - ya RELAXED. You'd think the other way round, huh?) and blood flows into the vaso-congestive (spongey) tissue but cannot leave. The tissue swells, becomes rigid and will stay that way until one of several things happens...orgasm, your mother in law walks in or those muscles tighten up again.

VIAGRA targets the chemical that RELAXES the muscles at the base of the penis. The blood flows in and ya get hard. I've heard ya stay hard. I've heard sometimes ya stay hard until the cows come home. I would advise any YOUNG guy who is just screwing around to take only a half or even a quarter to see what happens. It does NOT make you capable of repeated orgasms - just gettin yo dickie hard and as long as that chemical is affected those muscles you are HARD.

I hope that helps and I'm pretty sure that's how the mechanics works. NOT positive tho. The affect I am sure of. I've had a lot of friends try the stuff and for some it was pretty scary. Be careful.

here's the #1 rule with viagra though, don't take coke (the drug not drink) and viagra @ the same time, there have been numerous reports of the tissue of the penis breaking because there is so much blood forced into it, (i.e. exploding penis) sure the ultimate hard-on, but at what price?

Also interesting...have any WOMEN taken Viagra? I've heard that the effect is pretty impressive. A woman's sensitivity is based on how much blood is pumped into her genitals too. The reaction obviously doesn't LOOK the same - it better not anyway - but behind those silken walls flows a veritable FLOOD of blood. Most of the vaginal walls, the lips, the clit all vaso-congest in this case for heightened nerve sensitivity. If you pop a Viagra the amount of blood that congests in a womans genital region goes way up. I've heard the orgasms are a little slower, the feeling of "fullness" is extreme and the orgasms are very very deep. Of course Pfizer s working desperately on a woman's version of the pill. It'll be interesting to see who outsells whom over the following months.

Emerald, good luck

Desensitizing

Sounds tho' like I don't need it. A stimulating woman sounds like enough for an all night thrill or two.

Also, if I take a Viagra and that helps the muscles relax for engorgement, is there any evidence of desensitization or dependence?---meaning that repeated use will make a guy unable to get a nice hard-on without same?

I sure could see a learned-response (think Pavlov) happening here very quickly.

*Yes, if it already works, I've found Viagra has less of an additive impact. Maybe a little more wood in the woody, but no more than a good horny day. For someone with some fairly advanced erectile problems it may have mroe of an effect*

Also, if I take a Viagra and that helps the muscles relax for engorgement, is there any evidence of desensitization or dependence?

*I haven't noticed any reduced sensitivity*

*Basically only taking it on the weekends, still on first Rx trying it out. I find I can still get an "unassisted" boner mid-week just by normal stimulation, like reading Lit posts.*

I sure could see a learned-response (think Pavlov) happening here very quickly.

*I share your concern. Only have about 3-weeks of occasional use to go by, but okay so far. I'm 53 though. When I was younger I wouldn't have stood still long enough to take a pill.*

Thanks!

Thanks, Weatherman!
Good info.
I'm almost as far on in years as you!

I have been using Viagra ever since it came out. I am a 64. There seems to be a wide misconception that Viagra will help you "Get" an erection. This is so far from the truth. You still have to have something to stimulate you, a partner, some porn, or whatever turns you on. I might also add that it is not 100% effective. There are times when I have used Viagra, was able to get an erection through some type of stimulation, and then loose it while having sex. So even though it has been a breakthrough it isn't 100% effective. You young guys, don't worry about it, just go with what's natural. The other problem with Viagra is it takes away the spontaneity of having sex. You have to take it approximately an hour before.

Thanks very much HS!
...So would you say your partner(s) are feeling any different? is there any feeling of 'artificiality' on her part?
As for the spontaneity, well, we'd have to more to Bora Bora for that.
thanks,

Mr. GGG said Of course Pfizer s working desperately on a woman's version of the pill. It'll be interesting to see who outsells whom over the following months.

No, Mr. GGG, the real question is: has Pfizer already accounted for this in there R&D cost report and (if so) what is there estm. proffit from the drug in comparison to R&D cost and is this estm. already reflicted current stock price???????

Ok, here is what my experience has been like.
I came out of a very bad marriage. And the first time I finally was with someone, I could not perform. From that point.. it seemed like I could get aroused and erect but when it came to the act, it would go back down. My doctor gave me viagra to help. And it did. I was able to keep the erection and to climax. However, since then, I have been with someone who has realized that alot of this problem stemmed from the past and continued to work with me on it and I no longer use viagra as I no longer need it. No problems. As far as your comments on if it will effect your performance if you stop using it... NO! I had no problems after using it for awhile. So, I am not sure if that helps or not, but I hope it does.

My bf took it once for my birthday. He had a friend who took it and stayed hard for hours, no matter what he did it wouldn't go away. So he thought that if he took it the same thing would happen (great b-day present) Unfortunantly it didn't work at all. It actually did the opposite, he couldnt get an erection no matter what. So I'm assuming like most things, the reaction your body has to it varies greatly from person to person.

There is a warning that if you have one longer then 6 hours then you need to get help. So I am not sure how LONG this person had his but it is not good to have it for a long period of time.

I dont know how long it was, but it was a couple years ago and he's fine.

Hey, I'm no farmer or rancher. But do you think we could make money by feeding some Viagra to some bulls and stallions and charging admission for people to watch? :))

I'm a little older and I heard that if you take a quarter of a pill at night you wont pee down the front of your PJ's

Im dating a man right now that takes it once in a while. We have used it and WOW!!!
He only take a half a pill and it works for a good 4 hours.
He took a whole one once and he was a all nighter.
He stayed rock hard the whole time and he was able to get off 9 times in about 2 hours.
He probably would had gotten off more if i wasn't sick at the time and had to stop.
He has had problems when hes taken it in the past and it didn't work but like other posters have stated you have to be stilmulated some how. And then sometimes it still doesnt always work.
He asked his doctor if a woman can take it and he said yes. If a woman is having trouble getting aroused she can take a whole pill but it just may take longer to start working on her than it does a man.
I have taken a half of pill but it didn't do what i thought it would to me. I thought i would be like a cat clinging to the ceiling wanting some......lol
I got a little more excited than normal.. my orgasms was a little more intense but thats about it.
He wants me to try a whole pill with him one night and see what happens.
It would have to happen on a weekend when my son was at his fathers or neither of us would ever get out of bed......lol:p

Devilish1:devil:

One minor side effect I didn't think of earlier is the effect it apparently has on diminishing my natural lube (precum). It really seems to dry me up. You might want to have some good lube on hand, just in case.

More on Viagra and other Options

As I approached 60, my natural sexual reactions became less dependable. Psychologically, this didn’t bother me, and I believe I became better lover once I learned to focus on my partner rather than worrying about my self. That said, I decided to try Viagra, and found it a mixed blessing. From a “functional” standpoint, it worked; when stimulated, it allowed me to have an erection that was reminiscent of my 20s. On the down side, its reliability depended a lot on how recently I’d eaten, and what my meal consisted of. The more fat in the meal, the longer it took for Viagra to be absorbed, and to have any effect. Another downside, is the residual headache. For me, it’s about 12 hours from the time I take a pill till the headache and stuffy feeling are gone. This is somewhat dependant upon the size of the dosage, but too little (25mg), and the effect is a mild headache, and no erection.

If you feel you need “assistance”, there are several things you can try. First, I’d recommend you make an appointment with a doctor at a “Men’s Clinic”. Your average Family Practitioner will write a prescription, but being a generalist, doesn’t have the level of experience you’ll find with a specialist in this field. Expect your first appointment to last about an hour, and to include both a physical exam and a blood test. You’ll probably be screened for cholesterol, testosterone level, PSA, and a couple of other things. Your first visit will also include a discussion of the various options available to you. These will include Viagra, pumps, bands, penile suppositories (Muse), and injections. I’ve tried all of the preceding except pumps and bands. You’ll probably leave this appointment with a 5 pill trial of Viagra, and an appointment for a follow-up.

I’ve met with varying levels of success, ranging from nothing (Muse, a real pain, in more ways then one), to highly reliable, penile injections with a product called Edex. The only time I now use Viagra, is when I’m out of Edex.

I’ll write more about Edex in a moment, but first a couple more comments about Viagra, and a soon to be announced competitive product. The active ingredient in Viagra is sildenafil, and it’s also available from sources other then Pfizer. If you go to a “Men’s Clinic”, ask about the liquid form. It’s not available from your regular pharmacy, and I’m not sure where the clinic gets it. You may also find it through one of the Internet sites. Just be sure the product you buy is “sildenafil”, not an imposter consisting of various “natural herbs”.

The primary advantage of the liquid form is how you take it. You don’t swallow it immediately, you hold it in your mouth, either under you tongue, or next to your cheek for 2 minutes, or longer if possible. The major portion of the drug is absorbed from your mouth, allowing it to be effective within about 5 minutes. I still get a headache from this stuff, but it’s much more spontaneous, and I don’t have to worry about when and what I’ve eaten.

I mentioned a soon to be announced competitor to Viagra; it’s called Clailis, and is being jointly developed by Eli Lilly, and ICOS. The drug is in the final stages of certification, and promises several advantages over Viagra, the greatest being the length of time it is effective (about 12 hours). I haven’t had the opportunity to try it, but I will as soon as it is released.

For me, the best solution is Edex. It took some time for me to warm up to the idea of giving myself a shot in a very personal area, but once I did, it made a believer out of me. The injection is a non-event; if you do it correctly, there is no pain, not even any discomfort. About 2 minutes after the injection, you’re rewarded with an erection, the likes of which you’ll have to experience to believe. With the proper dosage, the erection lasts for a bit over an hour, and will continue even after you climax. The biggest danger is over dosing, resulting in an erection that lasts too long. This can be very serious, and will require a trip to the emergency room if the erection extends past 4 hours. Past 6 hours you you’ll probably have permanent damage. If you decide to try Edex, or one of the other similar products, listen to what your doctor says, and take his warnings to heart.

Some clinics can also sell you a product for women, which contains sildenafil (Viagra). It’s a cream which is applied directly to her clitoral area. The sildenafil component is supposed to stimulate blood flow, making her more sensitive, and sexually responsive. Another component of the cream is a mild concentration of menthol, which provides a warming effect. My partner finds it very stimulating and enjoyable. The brand my doctor sells is called Vaiglide, and it costs about $20 for a tube which lasts me well over a month.

I realize I’ve wandered a bit from the original thread, but there’s so much more to consider then just popping a pill. I hope my comments and experiences help some of you.

This is a fantastic set of information and is highly appreciated. These alternatives, except for the implant, were unknown to me--as were the applications for the ladies.

Did the Viagra-like cream come from an ob/gyn or a urologist or...
in other words how to get it?

Glad I could help...

I'm not sure I should post the doctor's name, but if you drop me an email, I'll send you his contact information.
