OMG ... i went to log into one of my hotmail accounts (not Isabella Thorne's account btw) ... and all my emails have vanished ...

i am nearly in tears ...

i think it is because i succeeded the limit and was slow to clear out some big emails ... but to lose ALL my incoming emails????

they cannot be replaced ... and some of these emails are the only thing i have to remember someone very dear to me ...

OMG ... i wrote to Hotmail Support but i don't know if they can do anything ...

has anyone else had this happen to them with Hotmail? if so, has anyone been successful in retreiving lost emails?

i am sooooo upset ... i don't know what to do ... :(

Yes, and I've never tried to get them back.

I've taken to CnP'ing my faves into a wordprocessor and saving them to disk.

It's my stubborn determination to never use Outlook that's in the way. Though I do understand you can do POP with Hotmail. I'm not sure how, though.

if you go through the settings/options or whatever it is, there's an option for POP mail. as long as you have the pop server address, you can access your mail there.

I was nearing my limit a couple of days ago...

Hotmail sent me an e-mail telling me that on 17th November they would clear the account down. The e-mail advised me to take as much as I could as new e-mails might bring the account over the limit again by the due date.

I did what they told me to and cleared out a lot of rubbish.

I don't know but if you didn't get a similar e-mail from Hotmail Administration you might have a case for them to retrieve your lost items. If they still have them.

Sorry to hear your trouble though.

:(

Isabella, I've had this done to me before by hotmail. Hopefully it'll work out like it did for me.

What happened was all my e-mails disappeared (including some important ones) and I wasn't even close to the limit.

I e-mailed Hotmail support and they e-mailed me back and said that happens sometimes (I don't remember the exact wording). But all of the e-mails did come back later that day. Hopefully yours will come back too.

I think that even if you do reach your limit, hotmail doesn't delete all of the messages, just the bigger ones.

Hotmail has instituted a new policy, whereby if you don't sign in every 30 days, all contacts, addresses, folders and mail will be deleted, and your account will be put in the deactivated pile. If you sign in within 45 days, they will reactivate your account, but it was not said if you get all your stuff back. I don't think so.

Hotmail sucks...I exceeded their limit through a load of spam and although I tried I was unable to retrieve any emails that were in my in tray

I was hacked!

I used to go to this chat place that was real cool. anyway.. the different "rooms" in that chat were internet sites. so, while I was in chat I'd go to my hotmail, making it a private room, and view my emails and such... well.. i guess a hacker followed me in one day cause the next time I went to my hotmail EVERYTHING was gone, including addresses... it was all totally cleared out... in one lil obscured folder there was a message "greetings from your friendly neigborhood hacker"... needless to say i never checked my mail while i was still in chat again!

I doubt this is what happened to you but... could it be possible that you were hacked?

Eudora is another alternative to outlook express. You can download it for free
from eudora.com and select it as your default email. Its a very simple program and I have had no problems.

I use Yahoo

If my limit there is exceeded, then nothing really bad happens - I certainly don't lose anything. I have approached the limit (6 MB) a number of times and I always got a warning when I logged on, but one time someone sent me a large file (near 1 MB) when I was right near the limit and I still got the email. That dumb shit! I always ask people before sending them large files - some people have to download every email before they can view it.

I have two Yahoo accounts, one for Lit and personal adds, and one that I had for my motorcycle mailing lists and other email before I came here. I check them both about once a day or more.

I don't think that it would be that easy to hack into my Yahoo email if I was in a chat room, but it doesn't surprise me that hotmail allows it - it is after all owned by Microsoft who cares more about features than security.

Yahoo.

As far as I am aware STG everything is kept on Yahoo servers in any case, I know the friends list is stored there so you can never ever lose it ......and I am sure that the actual emails are stored there aswell ....until you delete them ........if you want to know how to print out friends list from Messenger in yahoo please pm me and I will tell you ......and anybody else if they want to know , it is much easier than writing them all down .....lol.lol......

I am sure that Hotmail must offer similar service so sure you will get all your emails back Isabella Thorne .....

well just to let you all know ... i heard from hotmail helpdesk this morning ...

they told me my account was in excess of the limit ... and yes i received the warning ... but i let it go in error ...

and they deleted all my incoming emails with the "hotmail janitor" (WTF??) and they cannot get the emails back.

thank you all for your advice, concern, and comments.

but i am truly fucked ... and really really really depressed ... i've been crying on and off ... :(

you don't know how much those emails meant to me ... it's hard to face up to the fact that it is done ... the emails are history ... and i cannot do a damn thing to change it ... it is so hard to accept ...

oh man i hate hotmail.

I don't know if this helps or anything..

But.. You sound like you could use a hug, Isabella.. I know, I know.. A hug won't bring back deleted e-mails.. I'm hoping it will bring a smile to your face, though..

*Snugs Isabella nice and tight, his hands slowly rubbing her back in lazy circles*

And please don't cry, sweetness.. That angelic face of yours is much too precious than to have it stained with tears.. But if you do cry, know I'll be right beside you to wipe your tears away..

Remember.. You've always got a friend in me, should you need one..

*Snugs & kisses*

-Will

and yikes ... Andy ... soooooooo nice to hear from ya again darlin' .... i missed ya ...

As other people have said, Yahoo has far more flexible rules. I have in the past actually used email accounts at yahoo as storage and never had anything missing. I have between 4 and 6 accounts going usually and never have a problem.

An option for the future isabella is to forward your emails that you want to save as mementos to a different account. Dont give out the address, use it as a storage account.

I think Microsoft has taken a dim view of Hotmail because they have made it less user friendly and the servers are frustratingly slow.
