I don't think black or green would have the same effect... Maybe white... And definitely scented. :rose: :nana:

Yep, colour and scent can make a difference to temperature depending on how and with what they are made. White parrafin are recommended as best, especially for beginners...with black being seen as the most risky. We have used coloured though, red mostly, but then we like the pain. :p

Would the colour matter at all, even?

Would the music in the background matter at all?
The room temperature or the time of day?

guess it depends on the person.

in the risk or responding to a sarcastic response...

Yes.
Yes.

Of course.

Getting zoned in (subspace) or zoned out (detaching/subdrop) I feel depends on the entire situation, though, of course ... it depends on the person.

I didn't no so much thought went into candle use. my partner tried using a cream coloured candle once on me which was interesting. didn't no if different candle colours were used it would have a different effect.

seeing as how it should be heat transfer by conduction, not radiation, I don't see how colour should matter, but okay lol :p.
In all honesty I've had a bit of a rising interest in wax play, I shall keep white parrafin in mind...

It starts with the candle wax. Next thing you know, you are torturing someone with an ice cube.

*grins*

Or both!

The colouring agents will increase the melting point of a wax by different amounts, maybe not by a lot but each one is different.

and there's your scientific answer :D

Where to get safe candles

The Toybag has scented and colored candles they call Dripping Sensations. They are my favorite wax play items.

If you do not want to spend that much money, head to the grocery store and pick up the religious candles you find there. Most are under a dollar and come in a number of colors. The glass containers they come in make them perfect for melting on a stove in a pot of water. Just make sure you check the temp before you pour.

Red is an easy color to find, but amazingly the white wax candles tend to be much hotter. Shabbat candles are evil little things that are hot but still in the safe temp range.

Happy Dripping!

I've had these particular candles in various colors dripped in the most sensitive of places, and found them hot enough to be fun, but not hot enough to cause damage. The Lady doing the dripping was particularly fond of red. We just burned them the regular way, tho--we didn't try to melt the whole thing at once in a double-boiler.

Just have 3-5 of them going, and drip them in rotation. You won't need any other light in the room, and you'll always have molten wax in at least one candle. And having several candles to play with gives the whole scene a more ritual feel, which only makes it better! :D

In any case, whenever you play with a new and unknown candle type, be sure you test it on one of your tougher parts before you drizzle it on anyone else, just to be sure you haven't accidentally gotten ahold of wax with a freakishly high melting point.

Well that makes much more sense, thanks :)

doesn't explain the subconcious, though.
And I don't believe even the branch of science that specializes in it can, either.

Hell, I just grabbed a tea light off my mantle that happened to be red! I loved it!

However the other night I had some black tea lights when I was playing temp games with my husband. I decided not to chance it. When I tested it, it felt pretty damned hot.
