A job engine sputters as hospitals cut staff

The payroll cuts are surprising because the Affordable Care Act (ACA), whose implementation took a big step forward this month, is eventually expected to provide health coverage to as many as 30 million additional Americans.

say what? business doesn't react to eventually. it reacts to being able to cover today's payroll.

what's next? a government takeover of all american hospitals?

They have been preparing to fire administrative and nursing staff for the past year and a half at the hospitals I work at and I have heard the same at many other hospitals and medical groups. This was, and is, all done from their reaction to the ACA. It is stupid and not right, but they have proceeded anyway.

Sadly, this is not news to us.

peripherals, mainly, around here. but if you quit, you won't be replaced. i.t.- bare bones. patient transport, greeters, desk folk, gone.

can't wait for people to realize that obama has death panels and for health care to become rationalize

obama care, fucking up health care to biblical Apocalypse proportions

Interesting...Let's look at the list of reasons shall we?

1) The sequester (a Republican demand for passing the last budget increase) cut Medicare reimbursement by 2%

2) The Health Care Law reduces waste by cutting Medicare payments to hospitals that provide LOW QUALITY SERVICE or have HIGH ADMISSION RATES

3) The NIH reduced payments to hospitals as part of the sequester (See Point # 1 above...a Republican demand to pass the last budget increase)

4) Number of inpatient days decreased 4%...seems to be a good thing

5) As Baby-Boomers age, their health care is reimbursed at Medicare rates...which is lower than Private Company rates...again...a good thing for the taxpayer.

What does this all prove? That the OP can't read and thought he had something against the Affordable Care Act...but didn't.
