A homonym is one of a group of words that share the same spelling or pronunciation (or both) but have different meanings

I hadnt noticed a thread like this already so thought id make one :D

To start,
Cue - Item used for playing pool or snooker
Queue - a line of people waiting for something.

Did anyone know that a word that has the SAME spelling but different pronunciations,and each pronunciation has a different meaning, is actually called a HETERONYM?

Such as:

Minute: a measurement of time: 60 minutes in one hour
Minute: tiny

OR:

Close: as in shut, "close the door"
Close: near, next to
 
Some - an unspecified amout
Sum - the total of two or more numbers added together

OR - you could get a massage. :eek:

Maul - being attacked by a crowd of shoppers hunting for deals
Mall - where the crowd of shoppers hang out.
 
sent - delivered, past tense of send
cent - lowest unit of currency in the US; 1/100th of one US dollar
scent - aroma or smell
 
Tart something you eat

Tart derogatory term for a woman

but you can eat both i suppose:)
 
Grapes - those things you make wine out of.
Graips - those things people used to fasten shoes & boots with.
