House Resolution 23261 - Submitted by Louisiana Congressman Robert Broussard in 1910, this bill would have seen the importation of hippos to the bayous of the South. The ultimate goal was to increase American’s access to meat by introducing hippo meat to the table. Though it ultimately failed to pass, the plan had support from several big names at the time, including Teddy Roosevelt and Fredrick Burnham, the father of the Boy Scouts.
