Hi. I'm mostly a writer, but I also edit.

I seem to experience cycles. I write like the dickens, but then can't write to save my life. Maybe writer's block, call it what you will. So now I'll edit.

I'm most proud of my latest -- In the Dark of Night, A Widow's Burden, and A Case of Mistaken Identity.

Agreed. Two topics to be avoided in a public forum are politics and religion. Sorry, my bad. I was just passionate at that moment.

Passion, however, is something I would welcome more of. It's an editor's responsibility to let his author know whether or not the correct level of passion was achieved in a given work. I seem to suck at it.

Sorry I got carried away. I suppose there was a better way to do that but i didn't know how. Of course now its gone and I look like the a**hole. Thanks for clarifying.

Here I am trying to justify ending my pathetic life (kidding, just in case) and ya'll are trying to place me on a pedestal. Just a warning, I am wearing underwear, so you won't see anything, atleast nothing erect <sigh>

EH, I was priveleged to edit your story. I apologize that not all editors are as available as I am and keep my writers "in the loop". Perhaps if they were writers and had bad experiences (which led me to self-edit) they might view these experiences more as "opportunities of learning" and less than "chores".

I cannot begin to describe how much I have learned through editing. Thanks to SR and others, I have grown (discounting calories).

Seriously, editing is less a community hardship than a learning opportunity, and shame on those who think they're so perfect that they cannot learn from others, even those who might not write as well, so as not to adapt verbage or concepts or ideas. I have been inspired by other authors as I have edited their stories.

I haven't written much at lit, but have some stuff on my compy that people have helped me with (I am still trying to become lit "worthy" on my stuff). What I found is to look at the sticky of active editors seems to work. In the past Kumani, Copycarver, MistressLynn and mismused (A Mistory at eXcessica) have all assisted me in one way or another.

One thing that always amazed me is that editors are willing to take their time to help inexperienced writers. Let's face it, some of us have a lot to learn.

I figured out why after I did a couple of edits for some friends. Like you say, you learn so much by critically analyzing another's work. The experience adds to one's repertoire. Who doesn't read Chabon, McEwan, McCarthy, Anais Nin, Colleen Thomas, on and on and gain something?

I had a bit of a jolt the other day. Apparently there is a war brewing in a Mexican border town and just across the border is a US town on edge. And then the headline on CNN or other said "Asylum Seekers" and my heart leapt, thought I was in the news, luckily not. Sigh.
