Hey everyone,

new around here and to writing itself, mostly...
I plan to give it a try soon enough.
Any advices?
Is there some kind of etiquette i should know of?

Welcome to Bedlam, SBD. There are nice people here and there are mean ones. And then there are those who are mean just for fun. You have to find your own way around. Enjoy the exploration.

But one bit of advice: be careful what you ask for; you just might get it.

Hi there!

Advice: write, edit (everyone spots an error one microsecond after you press the submit button, don't sweat it), submit, wonder how long it takes (3 - 7 days for a newbie, coz the site editor - Laurel - will vett your content a little closer than us old hands), wonder and fret about the scoring system (a Red H is more than ten votes giving you an average > 4.5), then repeat.

Etiquette: you'll pick it up. Just browse the threads, you'll soon figure it all out, who we all are, the stuff we go on about. No politics at Authors' Hangout - go to the General Board if you're that way inclined.

Rules: no sex under 18 really does mean, no sex under 18. A few others, but that's the one comes up most.

Enjoy.

Welcome! Author's Hangout is a great place to acquire a lot of tips and advice. I know it has helped me a lot. Plus there are a lot of great folks and writers around here.

If you're new to writing, you can always use the forums to seek out an editor. Keep at it, and don't worry about any trolls that are out and about. I've also benefitted by reaching out to some other authors whose work I enjoy and learning more about their experiences, comparing notes, etc. and have made some good friends in the process.

Good luck and have fun!

Welcome to the AH. :)

No advice. You'll get enough from others.

^^^^^Look! He stole my nickname! I like my username better. Nice to know I'm not the only brain damaged person here.

Thanks, Tio, i think i've got the picture, not sure about what you mean with the last part though.
I suppose i will, in time...

I didn't even know there was a rating system
Politics is depressing these days, who really wants to discuss it?

I'm not entirely new, i've dabbled with the matter already, under another 'form' so to say.
I've just never actually written a full, single story, form start to finish, rather 'bits' of one.
Hope to be good enough

Expect me to break into Rapid Dialogue Mode on occasion.

Calliope (my principal Muse): *smacking me with a lesbian* "Stop that, you'll scare them!"

Le Me: >.O;; "Owww..."

Welcome to Thunderdome...

Thank you, to the both of you, i imagine :)

Welcome.

I think that as long as you don't attack other people's kinks you'll be fine.

It would be silly to do in a place like this:rolleyes:, thank you.

Thanks :D

We can exchange our medical records one of these days

No problem.

I've grown rather fond of mine. They explain a lot of things. Truthfully, they strike to the core of my very existence.

I wouldn't mind comparing notes sometime though. Always a pleasure to meet someone of a similar fate. I mean, the damage is done and nothing can change that. But I'm content w/what I am now.

Hello and welcome.

Plenty of good advice here already. My favorite piece of advice is just to write. Don't worry whether it's "good enough." You won't know unless you write.

Thank you, that's probably the same only advice i'd give if asked to.
Heeding it? Totally a different story:rolleyes:

Thinking about it, i should probably start with finding something to read, just to re-familiarize with the site mechanics.
I can't rember the last time i lurked around here...

If you're feeling rusty on the "how to" stuff, I recommend checking out the permanent threads in bold at the top of the Author's Hangout Forum: Welcome Authors, Author's Hangout Library, and The Everything FAQ.

I recommend checking out my Favorite Stories list, especially three stories that I think are useful for writers here:

SR71PLT's End Goaling in Writing Erotica,

Tx Tall Tales' Love Your Readers: Categories, and

TinkFairy's How To Break The Literotica Toplist

It really helps to pay attention to the information that's available. It really makes a difference in terms of getting the most you can out of the site and enjoying your experience as an author.

An interesting reading, quite depressing also.
At least i've got to know ahead that i will never manage to be in the top list

Very useful reading.
My head hurts, though...

I'm sorry it depressed you!

You would be surprised what ends up at the top of the lists. The key is not having great talent. It's being savvy about what readers are expecting in particular categories.

The only real measure of "success" on Literotica is your own personal satisfaction that you get from publishing stories here. That's all that really matters.

At the same time, there's a reason you want to publish a story on a website rather than just keep it stashed away on your hard drive. You want people to see it. Being savvy about the website will help connect you and your stories with an audience. That's the whole point of publishing.

It's ok, i was kind of kidding about getting depressed by that, or, better, i'd say i'm that kind of person which is often gloomy and easily prone to depression.
No big deal ;)

One can say to oneself that people's appreaciation doesn't matter, sure, but in the end it would be a little white lie, since we're all here to share what we write.

But ultimately yes, it's a good starting point remembering to write just because i like to.

I don't agree with this, even though I'm sure that puts me in the minority. Of course, I've never claimed to be like other writers anyway.

SBD:
Welcome to chaos.
Most of the AH crowd are good-natured and helpful, although one can sometimes find the odd troll.
I suggest you have a really Good Look at the stickies; they will tell you a great deal and prevent your asking the same bloody question that's always asked .
One thing has not been mentioned; a Lit page is about 3700 words.
Write whatever turns you on.
Good Luck

Thank you.
What is this one question that gets always asked?
Oh, well, i'll find out eventually...
3700 words per page? What an odd number ... and what an odd information to give...
I suppose it will all come useful at some point, thanks for sharing.
