Hi there

It's ok, i was kind of kidding about getting depressed by that, or, better, i'd say i'm that kind of person which is often gloomy and easily prone to depression.
No big deal ;)

One can say to oneself that people's appreaciation doesn't matter, sure, but in the end it would be a little white lie, since we're all here to share what we write.

But ultimately yes, it's a good starting point remembering to write just because i like to.

See? We got something in common already.

Welcome to the AH.

As someone who has been around here far too long in a lot of opinions, I can say you've gotten good advice so far. The best I can tell you is to remember to keep all appendages inside the ride at all times. It's for your own safety, not to mention the sanity of all others.

Now, go write something and put a link in your sig line for us lazy people.

3700 words per page? What an odd number ... and what an odd information to give...
I suppose it will all come useful at some point, thanks for sharing.

It's a forever question - what's the best length for chapters, for stories? The answer is always the same, just as long as you want your story oratory your chapter to be.

Some folk don't read long stories, some folk don't read short ones. But the one common thing in any discussion is the Lit page length - it's a database thing, and nothing to do with a "typical Word page."

Welcome. :)

And try to remember that the personal pronoun I takes a capital. Text-speak belongs elsewhere. Just sayin'.

No advice from me. I'm just the new guy here :D

What I would recommend though is browse through the FAQ and see if there's anything that finds your interest in the How To-pages. You might be surprised to see what kind of advice they give and how detailed it sometimes is.

Oh, wait. Advice. I got some still. Go read :D Reading stories here generally gives you an indication of what people write here and what people like here. Sometimes that helps you in writing just that part that gave you trouble before.

Welcome! Always good to see another dain bramaged soul.

My advice from my checkered past, for what it's worth (always slightly less than you paid for it) is thus;

1) Do what you like, but expect others to do likewise. Judge not lest ye be found wanting.

2) If what you like includes people under eighteen or animals, it's not gonna find a home on the walls of Laurel's arthouse.

3) Never, ever take any of it too serious. Last I checked, no one exits this ride alive anyway. And in 100 years, the people that care will have all the details wrong anyway. So, have a little fucking fun with it before the roller coaster hits the end! :D

Thank you.
What is this one question that gets always asked?
Oh, well, i'll find out eventually...

Well, thanks everyone.

I must admit that declaring my intentions here, before even starting, hasn't been the smartest of all moves:rolleyes:

The few rough ideas i had, seem all improper or dull now. Feeling a bit of pressure probably.

Anyway i'm working on something, i'll try to keep it simple and see how it goes...

Thanks for stressing the importance of using the capital for the I pronoun, I'm not english native speaker (did I already give it away?) and never actually considered it more than just a custom, not so widely respected either.

I'll try to get used to it.

We have quite a few non native speaking writers here in the AH. Some of them are pretty good. Check out some of the threads over the last few months. You might pick up more pointers. English is the pickpocket language. It mugged the other languages along the way and rifled their pockets for spare words and rules. Then they shipped it over here to this side of the pond and we bastardized the hell out of it. :D

Then there are people like me that speak a dialect called Texan. That even confuses native English speakers. I'm not even going to get into Tex-Mex.

Write what you want. Don't let us pressure you. We all started at the same point at one time. I go back and read some of the stuff I first wrote and cringe. After that in some cases, I edit, edit, edit. Some of it I've left as a reminder.

Have fun. That's what it is all about in the long run.

Who says it's not smart? The only dumb question is one that's not asked.
