Hi! Any other gardening addicts here?

sorry to say that everything i try to grow dies... indoors or out. :(

i sense a little enthusiasm in your post though... and i'm glad to see you enjoy it!

Hi Jammies,

I love gardening too although maybe I'm not quite an addict :) . I've recently had to admit that my garden is too big for me to manage well by myself but I do my best. I have seen the zone numbering system for climates but can't remember what mine is - some form of temperate. We're currently heading into autumn and I'm determined that I'll be planting some peas this year - both beautifully perfumed sweet peas and sugar peas in the vege patch.

I got addicted when we had an apartment in college that had a gardening space in back of the building (and right next to railroad tracks, so prepping the soil was a bitch). We grew a ton of veggies, and even tried to make a hothouse out of visqueen, PVC, and duct tape (which overheated the plants, then stood up like a huge sail when it caught a gust of wind and promptly fell apart  ). We learned so much, and had a ton of fun.

But then we moved, and I've been stuck with a little container garden on the patio for the past few years. :( By this time next year we'll have a house, and I'll be giddy over being able to plant a real garden with no rocks, containers, or restrictions on what I can grow though! :nana:

Same here. I've been known to kill plastic plants!

My husband's ex started to put together what might have been a lovely garden. Unfortunately, she didn't have much knowledge about gardening (or a plan for the garden, for that matter) and spurned the offer of help from my mother-in-law. Plants come up, but I don't know that much about them, and neither my husband nor I have the time or inclination to make the garden look nice.

It's a shame, really. It could be beautiful. My hubby put in stone sidewalks on the upper garden area, and there are plants near the stone walls on the lower area. . .

Yeah, we suck. I admire the people who enjoy putting the time and effort into gardening.

I love gardening . Zone 5 here. Large garden space with lots more space if I want. I just like to grow the stuff. Like you I am excited by all the latest garden catalogs. I have been anxious to get started. The funny part of it is ,once you get a system going and it is established. It is really less work over the course of a year than the same comparable size of lawn.

Hey,I have been seeing robins the last few days.

Well look! It's jammies! :D

i'm in the overlapping area of zones 7 and 8, so need to start planning. Now. This is the area where there's lots of honeysuckle, wisteria, roses, bulbs tend to do really well (the daffodils had started blooming before the ice storm hit), things of that nature.

This will be my first year actually seriously trying to grow something. Wish me luck.

Hi, I'm Jammies, and I am addicted to gardening. I live in Zone 5 and I just bought morning glory seeds I can't plant until May; my nipples tighten when I get the Spring Hill Nursery catalog; and my rototilling budget is bigger than my food budget.

Anyone else?

*sniff* *sniff* *raises hand* yes... so am I :(

Do we a twelve step program that doesn't include getting kinky sex in order for us to over cum this addiction?

Why would we want to A. not have kinky sex and B. get over this addiction?

*waves at ent*

Anyone else wanna have sex in the herb garden?

Just ask her for kinky sex in trade for your gardening skills! :D

The only compost starter I've ever used is cheap beer. It works well and the worms get all happy.

never happen....

Yup.... that's good stuff too. I have a big compost pile this year. Been bring home coffee grounds and paper shreddings from the office.

I use shredded paper from the office under the mulch in the springtime, too. Works very well!

add them coffee grounds too. they provide food and acid for the soil PLUS caffeine kills bugs.....

Does anybody have any good resources for ordering good stuff fairly cheap? Either online or via catalog? i would prefer online at this point (the growing season starts in less than a month here) but either would work.

My oldest brought me a big handful of daffodils this afternoon. They're out and blooming! In another few days to a week the whole front yard will be yellow. :cathappy:
