Heroism - The Oggbashan Memorial Event 2025 Support Thread

I think Laurel manually checks the notes field. As long as it's close, it should be fine.

Aaaaahhhhhhh, still have couple of scenes to finish. Wrote 35k words over the last 3 days and it kept expanding on me instead of finishing!!!! 60k now.

Oh well. Monday

Last ditch rush, but now submitted Angel of Berlin & Der Engel von Berlin. Same tale, one with heavy German dialogue. These have been very labour intensive, just hope they get through in time!
List is out. You made it. I didn’t.

Congratulations to all who participated and rest in peace to Ogg.

Looks like “The Boar’s Head Dagger” is there now, Jorunn. If that’s not the one you meant, send Laurel a note and she’ll probably be able to add it later today or tomorrow. Contests have tight deadlines, but events like this are often more flexible.

I see it now. That’s the one. The last time I looked it wasn’t.

I can't thank my editor enough, for some odd reason, I marked the deadline for next weekend. I'm fairly sure they were editing for 24 hours flat it certainly felt that way! I was stillt writing 12 hours prior to being published. That's more than a hero, that's commitment from a true friend, even though we've never met or spoke for real. The same goes out for Laurel, both submitted seven hours prior to publishing, each over 30k words. Greatest of respect.

Great entries this year! I had most of the day off yesterday so I think I've read all of them except Inkent's story (and I'm at the top of page 3 of that one) and have enjoyed them all.

Mine landed in Novels and Novellas and appears to have started off with an early sucker punch (it was at about 3.4* with 5 votes when I woke up yesterday) but has climbed back to get a solid red H. There have also been a few new followers, a few favorites, and several good reviews, making me a happy camper.

4.89/ 53 with only 746 views?
That is one vote for every 14 views…
That's an excellent score and a great view-to-vote ratio! Congratulations!

Thanks SC, you've been a diligent reader and a thoughtful commenter.

Not sure our overachiever CZ is going to make it, I held off a few days but I think we all know what finishing a work is like at times, esp under deadline.

So the breakdown:

13 lucky stories

Romance the big winner with four stories
2 in EC and Non-erotic
1 each in T/I (still have trouble with the new rebranding), Reviews, Interracial, Novels (impressive) and Letters.

Thanks everyone, always a unique and memorable challenge.

SouthernCrossfire, thanks for taking the time to read and comment on my entry. I did some serious research for this, more than any other works. This one included a trip to Berlin to try and get a bit of a "vibe" going inside my brain for this. I sat alone for two hours here immersing myself in the sound and visuals to help, along with a fair few other site visits (including 3hrs exploring underground Berlin!) to get me underway. Lots of personal internet trawling, and even more help and direction from the editing team who really dug deep. I also need to thank my daughter who found all these places that I hadn't factored in to glean info from in Berlin and chaperoned me through the U & S Bahn to make sure I ended up back in my hotel every night!

I took part last year, submitting two pieces, and they became very personal defining moments for me as an author on Lit, and I certainly feel it's been hugely beneficial, and not just from a writing perspective. I found out that I worked within the same organisation as Ogg, for all I knew, we may have unwittingly shared a lunch or tea break together. Small world :)

yowser and Inkent, thanks for the callouts. You're very welcome. We had an excellent mix of stories this year. Though I didn't get that many views in N&N (a hazard of the category that I may discuss in another thread), I'm considering adding a Part 2 to tie up a few loose ends. We'll see!
