Heroism - The Oggbashan Memorial Event 2025 Support Thread

Ok...my story published live today, two hours ago which is about 12 hours later that the normal new publishing time.

I made sure to mark it as an entry to this event, including in the story introduction comments I usually make.

Was today the publish day? For some reason I thought the date was July 14.
Mistakes can happen. Send Laurel a PM and ask her to include it in the event list. Probably not a lot of point pulling it now for a couple of weeks.

I figured I'd send her a message after the list comes out if mine isn't included. I don't want it taken down now.

I was under stupid assumption that I can submit the same story for Nude Day and Heroism event as the dates overlap. At some point I realized the Heroism stories wont be posted before the nude day event ends. By then I had written few chapters of a story already.

So, the story is published today. Naked Truths and Open Love, where I have written a heroic rescue scene of a damsel in distress in chapter 3.

While this story is not the official submission for this event, it carries the same spirit of heroism, albeit in much more sweetened and erotic way.

The official submission is in queue for 14th July,
Heller's Legacy
A forgotten truth, a life saved, a love unspoken.

5. All entries to be submitted from June 13th through to 11:59pm, July 13th - with a Go Live Date of July 14th. All stories will be posted on July 14th.

OMG the cutoff is July 13th - and I thought it was June 30th so I have bveen writing like crazy all weekend to make it in on Monday nite and now I find I have 2 more weeks! Oh joy! Oh bliss!

A young Norwegian woman visits the Normandie region of France to research the region’s Viking heritage. She is asked to assist when a burial record written in the Runic Alphabet is found in the records of a church destroyed during WWI. When the burial record leads to a Canadian soldier reported as Missing in Action during WWII, she begins following a cryptic trail of clues that lead to dual acts of heroism, twelve centuries apart.

An enjoyable mystery to write, I’m stewing the age of the MMC and thinking of making him much older. What category works well for an older man with a younger woman?

My story, "Hard Way Home," has been submitted. It features a young girl who is taken by a tribe on the early American frontier and grows up to experience love and heartache across two very different worlds. I submitted in Novels & Novellas but debated the placement after originally submitting in Romance due to the expansive scope (romance, first time, elements of non-consent and abuse, and historical detail), and the fact that the story plays out over almost 30 years. I revised it even though it's only about 28.6K words long and is a standalone, but I won't mind if Laurel feels it's a better fit in Romance and changes it back.

Edited for category change.

I've used Mature category in stories where woman is younger and man older. Stories have done well.
Excellent advice. Seconded.

Definitely a mature story. Looking forward to reading it. 😊

I had a friend message me, asking why I had a story taken down. I responded that I didn't know one had been removed, and it was not removed by my request. So I headed to my published stories list, and sure enough, my entry into this event has been pulled. It had been published early, even though I was sure I'd submitted it with the proper wording. So I guess it was noticed that it was early and was taken down.

I hope it will be published again on the 14th. I'm sure I'll get comments stating they already ready it once and why was it taken down and published again, but if that's the worst thing that happens, I'll be able to live with that.

I don't know how these things work, but does a story which is taken down to be republished later go back in your drafts folder?

You can always add a comment explaining what happened the moment the story is published to ward off unfair criticism.

Ah, you win! That's exactly where it went, to be published on the 14th. It still has all the votes and comments attached to it as well.

Thanks for that suggestion. I had not thought of that on my own.

These challenges with long deadlines on the distant horizon are always unintentionally aggravating.

Idea hatched months ago. Story tinkered with desultorily, ideas coalesced, simmering in the back recesses of the brain. Some progress. Then what? The deadline is here and the thing isn't done?

The Sgt. Purple Hearts Club Band needs another couple weeks of editing, but that level of scrutiny will not occur this time around. Wounded veterans, a rock and roll band, emotional disjunction in Austin Texas. Maybe I'll pull it off in time.

For the first time in forever, I finished early and went ahead and submitted, and the worry about how it will be received, particularly since it's not a typical Lit offering, kicked in. Therefore, I kept telling myself "I only have to wait until Sunday. I only have to wait until Sunday."

Having never waited this long for a story to be published since maybe the first one, I've admittedly been impatient, checking in to see if it's been approved probably 20 times since Tuesday. No, still pending. But I only have to wait until Sunday.

Then this morning, Saturday, the day before I'll see some feedback, I realize Sunday's the 13th, not the 14th!

Arrrgh! I only have to wait until Monday. I only have to wait until Monday.

*****

Good luck to all who are still writing. That will be me on the upcoming Hammered event IF I can pull it off.

I'm writing my second story for this event, but this one isn't going to make it in time. Well, I have one story coming up, so may as well finish this with time and publish it later. Although I think this one is better... like always, the next one is better.

Mine's been approved in Novels & Novellas. It's probably on of the shorter standalone entries, but that may serve as an incentive to do a part 2 taking place a few years later. I have a partial outline, but I'm seriously lacking on incentive until I see any feedback on this one.

I just hit submit. I hope it makes it through in time.
Congrats! As long as you included the required "OGGBASHAN MEMORIAL EVENT 2025" in the Notes field of the submission and haven't included any No-Nos (under 18, etc), you should be good to go.

Probably a dumb question, but was I supposed to include the quotation marks in the OGGBASHON MEMORIAL EVENT 2025 note?

Last ditch rush, but now submitted Angel of Berlin & Der Engel von Berlin. Same tale, one with heavy German dialogue. These have been very labour intensive, just hope they get through in time!

Burning the midnight oil, literally, in Courselles-sur-Mer. The Boar’s Head Dagger was submitted at 12:58 AM local time. One final read through, but no spelling or grammar checks. I hope Laurel uses American cut off times.
