Heroes...

I've mentioned my hero too many times already on this board and I have long ago got the hint that my carrying of the torch is unwelcome, annoying, and overdone and that I should "get over it."

Still. Yeah. Hero.

I seem to have missed the memo. Care to fill me in?

Jane Addams, 19th-Century Chicago social reformer.

Eleanor Roosevelt, could probably have made a better president than her husband.

Alice Walker, whom I have a hopeless crush on.

Personal heroes? In that case.
Mikhaila Cook. She died in 1984 because she was an Isreali. She married her husband in direct opposition to her parents who could not see her marrying a Gentile. One of the most beautiful people I have ever been blessed with knowing. (Mikki, Blut und Ehre meine Frau.)

My father,
he went behind the wall more times than even he cares to remember. He carries the assholes and zippers to show it as well.

My Wife,
She has put up with me for 13 years. She has put up with me even though my views on sex, sexuality and cheating are very different than hers. What's more important to me, she has kept an open mind and is now starting to understand where I am coming from, not to mention she is starting to feel the way I do about much of it.

The Guy Who Signs My Check...

John... you're my hero!

Sincerely,
ElSol

There are two I would publicly proclaim, simply because they would never know the impact they have had on so many lives.

The first is my mother. A teacher for 35+ years, dealing with some of the worst of the worst and the best of the best. I knew she was remarkable when at my graduation over two thirds of my class made a point to come see her and thank her for helping them, even though it was over 5 years since they were in her class. She mixed intellect with imagination and passion and made school a place to be treasured not trampled. And raising 3 boys on her own, "each more full of piss and vinegar than the other two" (her words) on a teacher's salary, I am sure she worked a few miracles somewhere to keep us fed.

The other is a man named Peter. A singer with a voice like an angel, and so unassuming and humble you'd never know half of his talent unless you caught it unawares. He had been beaten in the Soviet Union for his faith, imprisoned a few times, and yet never thought about giving up. The courage of his convictions outweighed his desire for an easy life. When I grow up I want to live like that if called upon.

Three of my heroes are politicians:

Mo Mowlam,
Betty Boothroyd
Hillary Rodham Clinton (yeah, y'all can beat on me now)

I have others, who I won't name.

All Veterans everywhere :rose:
Ghandi....Mother Teresa....
and pretty much anyone else be it famous or otherwise who promote peace, and hopefully cause us to need less veterans in the future.

Also...my mom  Strongest woman i know.
