Alabama’s special election for Jeff Sessions’ vacated Senate seat is underway today, but state courts are still battling over whether or not digital records from the vote should be preserved in case of a recount or a hack.

On Monday, a judge ordered local election officials to save digital images of ballots, AL.com reports. However, his decision was quickly reversed by the Alabama Supreme Court, which stayed his order Monday evening.

Alabama uses paper ballots in its elections, which is considered more secure than many digital voting machines. Once voters mark their choices on paper, the ballots are scanned by computers to tally the votes. This system isn’t set up properly for audits, according to Verified Voting, an election integrity organization.

“If the race goes to a recount following the election, Alabama’s recount laws won’t do enough to protect voters’ votes because it has no audit structure in place and relies on re-tabulation—where ballots that were tabulated by optical scanners are now re-tabulated by machine,” Verified Voting president Marian Schneider said in a statement. “If a recount occurs, it cannot be relied on to detect and correct a potential error in the computerized count unless it is done manually.”

Furthermore white-dominated Alabama is sure to delete votes from predominantly Democrat districts BEFORE any recount. This is why Doug Jones lost.
 
For all the talk about corruption in voting, it's funny how Republicans are the first to jump and destroy evidence.

Fixed your post, and no, CNN has projected Doug Jones to be the winner so the fat lady has certainly NOT started singing.

Democrats would be well advised to keep their corks on their bottles for the rest of this week.

Black Alabamans had the sense and saved the day, the Dems should pay more attention.

What have the Democrats not done? The GOP has stifled every effort the Democrats have made to help black people.

Obama made moves to shut down federal private prisons and Trump brought it back, Obama made moves to let marijuana become legal and Trump is trying to roll that back, Obama made it so crack and powder cocaine receive equal sentences... then there was Obama's rollback on police militarization, which again, Trump cut off, and Obama made moves for increased federal oversight of local cops and Trump took a political hit out on that one, too.

Democrats aren't perfect but damn, they've done a lot and tried to do a lot more.

Great points! I meant to say that they need to toot their horns a lot more and continue to stress why they are much better option than the R party. We know the Democrats have improved the lives of Americans, but they need to scream it louder.

No person who votes on an electronic voting machine in the US can ever know if their vote went to the candidate they wanted.
If there's no paper trail that the voter verified, no one can ever know if it did, regardless of how many "recounts" are done.

Of course, they prefer to see blacks in menial roles and walking around with their heads hanging down low or shuckin' and jivin'.

The Obamas are far from that stereotype.

That's why they are so angry and bitter.

Repugs think that they are so superior and intelligent, when the opposite is true. That's why they have a hernia whenever a Democrat, a black Democrat, runs the show better than them.

Dumpster is enjoying the fruits of Obama's strong economy. They love to claim ideas off the backs of others.
