Help!

Somehow Lit just managed to replace the text from chapter three of my "The Play Is The Thing" series with the duplicate text from chapter two! This just happened, within the past few days.

I recently lost my entire stored material on my computer, so I don't have the ability to retrieve it from my end.

This chapter three is the final chapter of that series, and it's a long chapter. There is no way I'm re-writing that thing from memory. Does anybody know if Lit has the ability to retrieve it, once they screw up and delete it? Who do I need to contact, and how do I contact them?

Oh crap, I really hope you get it Stevie, if you can or make a belated request for Christmas to buy yourself a USB memory stick and save duplicate stories onto there so there is always a back up.

Cherryblossom, my totally incredulous editor just sent me an e-mail, saying exactly the same thing. He didn't say it in such a kindly manner, however. His little missive was more along the lines of comparing me unfavorably with Luddites, or some such.



Well, I PM'd Laurel last night, and I just noticed this morning that the erroneous chapter has been completely deleted from my Submissions page. Now that series only lists two chapters. I'm hoping this means Laurel received my PM and is working on retrieving my story. I'll be grateful as hell if she can do it, yet I hope she doesn't end up losing all the public comments that went with that chapter. There were a few really funny ones.

Nope. He never helped edit that particular series. He's only helped edit about half my stories.

Update: While my Submissions page no longer lists that chapter, my View page still does, only now it lists it as 'rejected', with the following reason:

Hello! Unfortunately, we do not keep backups of previous submissions. We are not sure what happened, but believe it happened one of the times an edit was submitted and processed on this story. We are having our tech folks check into Google caches and other sources in an effort to reclaim the text. We do apologize, and hope your holidays are happy otherwise.


While they may believe that's what happened, that isn't what happened. That chapter was processed and posted without error, a week ago. When it was posted, I checked it, to make sure all the edits were included, and they were. Everything was fine. It only got screwed up within the last day or so, well after it'd already been approved and posted correctly.
