Chinese. Its a beautiful language of visual symbols. Those symbols make great tattoos as well.

That said, how is the chinese language to be written? is it up and down? and if so, will taking symbols written side by side and putting them up and down change the meaning of them?

In traditional Chinese script, the characters are written in columns and one reads these top to bottom, right to left.

If the characters are written horizontally, one would read left to right.
