Hi there,
My SO is a writer working on a story and I'm trying to help with a snag within its erotic elements. One of the main characters is a lesbian and my SO has no experience in this area (neither do I so this is my small effort to help). For the sake of realism (to be erotic and avoid being cliche) it is essential to find out more about the sexual relationship/expression between women so it is appropriately depicted. It would really help to get an accurate sense of the erotic reality so that guessing doesn't reduce the characters to one dimensional cartoons.

When you read an erotic story about women what screams bulls*it?....What have you read that really hit the nail on the head (so to speak) and got the blood rushing?

If anyone wouldn't mind sharing your experiences, feelings, fantasies/realities (or possibly fielding a stupid question or two)it would be much appreciated. Also feel free to PM me if you'd rather not post.

Thanks,
Gracie~

Hmmm. You've posed your questions excellently by suggesting that we use examples from previous stories. I'll be back after I do a little research! ;)

Etoile

Thank you so much for your thoughts lovely Etoile :) I look forward to your input.

What makes me scream "Bullsh*t?" I think it's mostly when people shift too quickly. What I mean is that I've read a number of stories where two people have barely met and suddenly they're a.) going straight for the genitals, or b.) proclaiming their undying love. I think a major mistake a lot of people make is not to make a logical transition from one phase of two characters interacting to the next. Just my $0.02.

I agree with the above statement and all I can say is you can't write a good story based on what people tell you...you have to feel the story in your own heart so if it doesn't feel right to you then don't write it. I can also say that stories take time so don't rush into it and just write what you feel...I hope that helps a little bit

Thank you. Your 2 cents are helpful, very. Sometimes it's hard to know how much to put in by way of relationship evolution. It helps to know it's something a reader wants to see in the genre. Thank you again :rose:

This is helpful also, thank you. I agree you cannot write a good story based on what people tell you. But I think you can write something good based on what you learn from others though you haven't had direct experience. It can lend greater credibility to the situations the characters find themselves in. If the emotional "life", the underpinnings of the story, have come from the heart of the writer and ring true. But poorly depicted situations can overshadow what is underneath. Characterization, plot and situations have to be carefully interwoven to complement one another.
It does take time though to get there though and I fully agree about not rushing :)

I am glad that I helped in some way or another. and yes I also agree with you anout being about the learning part. I would also suggust that you read a few lesbian stories and see what you like about them and if they would work in your writing as well...I know that reading another work can help me come up with my own as long as it isnt the same thing as I read (because thats cheating both yourself and the real author)...again good luck and I hope to read the story when it is done :)

Reading other ones is a good suggestion (and of course no plagiarism: my pet peeve). I'll have to devote some time here on Lit checking out the stories in this category. It may be a good starting point for the imagination and take things from there. I'll refer my SO to this thread (the reason I started it but all the above advice is helpful to any writer). And when the story is read I'm sure you'll get a chance to read it. Would love to get your feedback.

Thanks again :)
