Two characters in a story that I am writing are Mexican. They are mother and daughter.

I need the Spanish word for a term of endearmeant: my poor baby or my poor little one...

I know the formal translation but was thinking that there was a more informal way of saying it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Actually the person to ask has one of the names you could use: Perdita.

Crimson, the terms for a daughter are mija (everyday use) and the more endearing, mijita (for sons the ending becomes o). Hija is actually the word for daughter, but with the possessive it becomes mija.

Niña is used to indicate a baby or child, but not used to address such.

Pobrecita means 'my poor little one' (o ending for masc.); perdida means little lost girl, not sure if you wanted that.

OK? Perdita

Thanks Perdita.

Pobrecita was the word for which I was looking. I knew that I had heard it somewhere before, but when I typed it out, it didn't look right. Thank you for the help.
