This morning I tried to open my Word program. It showed me the little intro screen, but then nothing happened. The little bar/button at the bottom said it was running, but when I clicked on it, all I still saw was my desktop. When I clicked "control/alt/delete" it also showed Word was running, but I couldn't see it. I clicked on the Office Bar square button on the top, but that didn't work either.

Please, if you have any idea what's wrong, please tell me. This is disastrous for a writer like me!

I forwarded this to a tech friend. Will let you know what he says. Fixes these things all the time.

I've had Word lock up like that a couple of times. Usually trying to recover a file it was editing when it got shut down abrubtly by an error or a power loss.

Ctrl-Alt-DEL, selecting Word and telling it to End Task before shutting down Windows will correct the problem most of the time.

You may have to find the temp file it's trying to open and delete it before opening Word again. I've had to do that once before it opened. Most of the time if I go make a pot of coffee and come back, it's finally decided whatever it was trying to do was hopeless and given me an error notice. Once I tell it to give up on the corrupted file, it works fine again.

If all else fails, go to Add/remove programs and uninstall Word then reinstall it.

Okay, emergency's over. I figured it out. For some reason, when I opened the program the window wouldn't show. In an act of desperation, I right clicked on the bar at the bottom that said I had "Document 1" open. I clicked on "maximize," and BOOM there it was, just like usual. Go figure. I have no idea why it was hiding in the first place.

Thanks for the suggestion Weird Harold (I know what you were talking about, and that wasn't it.)

Thanks also, Merelan. Your friend was going to work hard for me to find a solution. I've already thanked him via email.
