Help Me Understand This War Thing

Why is it that supporting unilateral invasion of Iraq and thereby setencing to death and dismemberment many of our sons and daughters, husbands, and wives, mothers and fathers is considered patriotic?

Why is it that asking to join the rest of the world in search for a peaaceful resolution to avoid blodshed, to avoid futher debt and economic depression is considered unpatriotic?

Is it so unpatriotic to think that our vast strength is better used to heal ourselves, to educate our citizens?

Why is it so important that we invade Iraq? What will we accomplish? What are the real benefits of a regime change?

you will have to ask Bush this question. Oh wait, you were not on the grid to ask softball warm and fuzzy questions last night.

Did you notice he had the same answer for every question?

My favorite part was when he said we've given Iraq twelve years of diplomacy.

It'll be a long time before he stands in front of the press like that again.

Answering important questions is not his best thing...

He really didn't learn anything from his father.

PH, why do you think its been a year and a half since he had done such a thing.

I would have LOVED to seen an old school reporter take him to task, but all we have in todays wrinkle free botax media are bobble heads with large chins.

Perhaps I should change the title of the thread and get some of the war supporters to help me understand this thing. All I keep seeing is support Bush blindly, and support your troops by sending them to die in the sand. But no why? No real justification? I just don't get it.

dont mention it hazey.

Btw, how many times did he envoke the emotions of 9/11 (god, I am soooo sick of hearing that date as a reason to invade) to ratchet the yocals into a sabre rattling orgasm?

Saddams is an infected pussed pimple butt *

OK maybe I can get some answers now.

Don't get me wrong I appreciate BBW and Haze comments and I agree with you both, but my questions still remain open.

It's still working for him, there's a lot of dipshits that would like to think Saddam was behind it all. What with all those "Weapons of Mass Desrtuction" he's had in his possession all this time, he had to steal OUR airplanes to do it. It's all logical, isn't it?

Fear is Bush's only instrument, he's played it like a violin.

Perhaps
So just squeeze him with inspections
Don't blow off his ass, our ass, and the next door neighbor's ass as well
You will spread the infection

One thing that saddens me about this whole debacle is my lost trust in Colin Powell. I just don't believe what he is saying anymore. It is just way to convenient that anytime a world leader or massive anti-war protest happens a couple hours later you see Powell in front of the press with "new evidence."

I mean is it really just coincidence that we "discovered" Saddam was suposedly still building missles only a few hours after the Pope condemned any military action?

I saw this on another board, I just had to steal it...

Interesting diversity of opinions. I'm wondering when any of the hundred posters that continue to flood this board with their Bush bashing are going to offer up any solutions...?

All criticism with no solutions isn't going to get a thing done either.

I think you need to define the problem before you need to search for a solution, right?

Solutions? What is the problem again? You see that is what I am asking? Why should we forcefully remoe Hussein? There are other leaders who are doing worse by their people, harboring terrorists, building long range weapons of mass destruction, yet we sit in the sand. Why?

In 12 years Saddam has done nothing to escalate this problem, only the Bush Administration has. Why is that?

The problem has been identified in 17 different UN resolutions.

hmmm and yet the UN stands mostly opposed to military action. So I ask again why do we need to go to war?

Is it so far fetched to think that Hussein would give WMD's to terrorist organizations to use against the US...? Is that scenerio impossible for you accept...? In 12 years Saddam has done nothing to comply and continously laughed in the face of the UN. Does the UN hold any relevance to you...? Do you think policies hold any relevance without having teeth attached to them...?

The WMD's that Saddam has been forthcoming on are ALL items of relevance for the period of 1991-1998. There is no record of activities in Baghdad for the 4 years the inspectors were not present. Are you taking the asumption that he wasn't doing anything wrong during that time without weapon inspectors in his country...?

I think that in order to justify a war to order the death of fellow humans there needs to be concrete evidence to support such an action. There has been only hear-say and speculation. I think the inspectors need more time without the spector of death hinging on their findings. I think the UN is absolutely correct in holding back on military action and we should greatly value and respect the decisions of the UN. We should NOT act alone.

Without the evidence of WMD's and now with evidence that Al Quaida is not associtated with Saddam, why is it so imperative that we fight? Have the embargos failed?

Why are we attacking Iraq?

Because they have nuclear weapons, Saddam doesn't.

First off let's acknowledge the fact that none of us have as much information as the government does. So your solution is more time, I couldn't agree less...that is exactly what Mr. Hussein would like.

How many times is enough enough...? Russia and China were opposed to intervention in Kosovo, there's been rifts in the UN security council in the past and there will be more in the future, life moves on. We are not acting alone.

To believe that Hussein is not concealing chemical and biological, and possibly nuclear materials is a big mistake. Why has he not fully cooperated with inspections if he doesn't have anything to hide...? It's proven he has been in possession of these materials in the past and they are unaccounted for. The burden the items were destroyed rests soley on Mr. Hussein. UNSCOM was never sent into Iraq to look around the desert with a magnifying glass, Iraqi cooperation had to be full and forthcoming, and it has not been.

You are right that no ties to Al-Qaeda have been proven, but Hussein's support of Hamas clearly indicates he DOES have terrorist ties.
