HELP... got a sore throat... any remedies?

do any of you guys know remedies against a seriously nasty sore throat (combined with earache and sore eyes). all the pharmacies & docotors are closed here today and i only got 3 strepsils left. currently feeding myself on hot tea with honey....

shyte... this sucks and i so wanted to go swimming today

It's awful but I swear, gargle with warm salt water. And hot tea!

Gargle with large glass of warm water and a tsp of salt. (Dissolved in the water) Gross but it helps. (Kills the bugs)

Also crushed garlic, honey and hot water sipped regularly.

with warm salt water.......and NO TALKING if possible...
vocal rest is important so the sore throat doesn't get
worse into laryngitis or something like that.

Do you have a walk-in clinic that is open 7 days a
week where you are? I know you said that the
pharmacies and doctor's offices were closed......but
at least where I am there is a walk-in clinic with a
doctor on call.

Definately the warm salt water.

Old recipe but try thowing a shot of whiskey or dark rum into tea with lemon and honey then bundle up in blankets and sweat it out.

we do actually have a hospital where i live... totally forgot about that because it is so shitty. hehe. I live in a really small scottish coastal town When I broke my wrist 2 years ago they were able to take x-rays at the hospital but to get the cast on I had to take a 30min bus drive to the next bigger town We live in a different time zone here I sometimes think

Sore Throat

Honey & lemon - warm, not too hot. Add some ground cloves (natural anaesthetic) and try to sip slowly. The honey will coat the back of the throat, the lemon will assist in fighting infection, the cloves will reduce irritation.

Get better!

A walk in clinic or ER is not the route to go. Never go in for a sore throat. (Unless you have the whities in your throat. That does qualify for immediate attention.)

I would suggest you head to HEB for some of their store-brand throat losenges, but it sounds like you are much too far away.

The salt water rinse, done about every 2 or 3 hours will help. The salt sucks out some of the fluid in swollen parts which decreases swelling.

I had a 4 month bout of pneumonia/bronchitis/flu this year. I was well for ONE WEEK in the middle and took enough codeinne to get the shakes when I stopped it. I tried EVERY rememdy I could find.

The honey and lemon in hot water was the best suggestion. (Got it from here-thanks folks!) It is cheap and easily available and not so caloric as hot chocolate. I found spicy soups to be good too.

thanx folks (again). I'm feeling better already - the salt thingy worked (I think) although it tasted rather -- how shall we say-- interesting.

A friend of mine brought me what he called "good, hot, jewish chicken soup" which felt really good. Unfortunately I dont think the water polo training is an option for me today. Nevermind, at least I can waste some more time here at lit. hehehe

going to a walk-in clinic is a great idea if it is a serious enough problem.
i like to use fishemans friend if my throat gets sore. the taste is aweful, but it works.
i also have some herbal tea made especially for sore throats which if find works for me.

sorry to hear you are not well. it may be a sore throat, but it sure can be a pain in the ass.

This usually works for me ...

Gargle with some Listerine ... try to let it go deep down in your throat (without swallowing).

And then ... a big spoonful of honey ... letting it slowly slide down your throat.
