I've got XP also. Do you have Microsoft Office pkg installed? Example, do you have Microsoft Word? Or just notepad?

Open a pic with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer

When opened, click on the menu button at the bottom, to the left of the blue ? help button....screen with a paint brush on it, and see if it opens the picture for editing with the Micro Off Picture Mgr
