I am sitting in a tiny kitchen space of a home in extreme western Hungary...Kapuvar to be exact. It is 2:45 am. I am on a $.25/minute long distance modem that is only moving at 16.8 kps.
No time to read...lol...just time to say, "Hello!" The family and I are here for another three weeks. The food and people are fantastic...wish you were here. There is a pastry/dessert specialty shop that is unbelievable! You would love it, perky.

I would give everyone my web page address for our trip, but that might elicit some less than desired responses...lol. Hmm....I would love to share our time with ya'll. What the hell!

Maybe I can use some of my favorites to filter any who would like to see our on-line travel journal. This is rather spontaneous to offer this. My apologies to those whose names I offer for filters.

Please be nice, there are lots of eyes that are watching with me.

ohhhhhhhhhh I'm so jealous!!! I can't wait to see everything. Hope you're having a fabulous time, sugah. I miss you.

So envious of your trip and hope you are having as much fun as I think I would have. That is one region of the world I will eventually see and experience.

I'd be interested in seeing your travel journal (site) or hearing about your trip in more detail when you return.

Enjoy it,
mouse

Thanks all for your interest...

Maybe what I will do, is send the address to all who ask here. That way no one has to feel like they are liable...lol. I will PM you with my address if you ask here or through PM.

I am needing to get off. I have had trouble getting through my AT&T callling card operator. Seems that some in Hungary know a good deal when they see one.

I will re-visit Lit when I have the opportunity, and update this thread. Bye all.

I'm asking too! (please)

Have a great time!

I had a quick peek at your website. Sounds like you guys are having a wonderful time. Hungary sounds so interesting and the people wonderful. Enjoy the rest of your time in Hungary and say hi to your family for me. :)

Take care

The mosquitos are driving me off....

well...and the slow modem...and I am a cheapskate, too, so the $.25 /minute hook-up is driving my fiscally conservative mind batty.

I try to update our travel journal every couple of days. Don't hesitate to pop in and tell me what you think. For all who might come across this later, just PM me, or ask on this thread for the address. I will be back...hopefully...in the next day or so.

Until then, I would recommend the white wine from the Balaton region. It is smooth as silk!

Am missing you erosman...and I want some of that dessert sent to me!! It looks lush! The brownies I made aren't cutting it for me any more!

Hi erosman & family! I hope you take plenty of photos to share with us when you get back. I'm jealous!

I loved the web page.....looks like you guys are having the trip of a lifetime!

I've added it to my favourites so I can see your progress......I'm looking forward to future updates.

Thanks for letting us know a bit about your trip.

Loved hearing from you.

Stay in touch.

Miss you,

the internet cafe scene

It's a little after noon in Hungary...Balatonfured, Hungary to be more precise. I am sitting in an upper room, that has an underground feel to it. The name of the place is 'CyberClub', and the proprietor knows his stuff when it comes to computers. He just hooked my laptop up to his DSL, and I was able to upload the past week of our trip. It should be available sometime later today. I am e-mailing the address to those who expressed some interest. Don't hesitate to inquire...inquiring minds are priceless!

Thanks all who have responded here or at the web page. I will hopefully check back in before I log off in a bit.

eastern European attitude

or at least the one I am working to grasp.

Tonight our Hungarian hosts who collectively know about 100 English words (compared to the 20 Hungarian words that I cling to), taught us 'minden jo' (pronounced mean-dan-yo'...or something thereabouts).

Minden jo is 'all good' or 'all is good'.

And it is...or it should be...or if you drink enough of the wine, it will get that way:D

The map is pointing to Vienna tomorrow. It is late here, so I will hopefully get some sleep, and tomorrow when I walk those cobbled streets, I will think of my friends here at Lit.

viszlat!
(see you later)

wow cool thanks for sending us messages from hungary ... im glad you're enjoy your holiday i would love to travel europe someday

It's 7 AM here, and everyone is starting to stir

We had a big party last night. Did you know that Hungarians like 'blonde' jokes? The only kind of jokes they like better are 'policeman' and 'Russian' jokes. I don't believe I have seen people laugh harder...ever!

The great part, is that I picked up the tab for 23 of us....full, big meals with big salads...lots of beer and wine...and it only cost me, with tip, $125 US. WHAT A COUNTRY!!!!!

I think Hungary is an incredible bargain! The people are the best part, too. These small town families aren't distracted with material things to the extent that we are. But!, their damn dogs start barking at dawn! The yippy little bastards!

See you in Budapest in a few days

Happy travels! It sounds like you guys are having a wonderful time.:)

Take care.:rose:

What a great thread.

I'd love to read more about your family's adventure too, if you'd be so kind to send me your website address.

Have fun!

Buda & Pest

Two cities who westerners lump together. And the Pest is pronounced pesht. I am typing on an Hungarian keyboard. They have no question mark, and the y and z are switched. I cant even begin to understand half of the characters on here.

Went to the US embassy yesterday. That was a treat. I have only ever visited one before, but this time I was showing my high school senior the possibilities of his diplomatic tendencies. The marines were really helpful. The Hungarian doorman was not going to let us in. After being turned away once, and told no the second time at the door, I asked him if what he was telling me was that this American was not allowed in the American embassy. He immediately stepped aside and let us in. When I questioned one of the marines, he remarked how he saw quite a few Americans dissuaded by the Hungarian doorman. I guess it pays to push it sometimes. In fact pushing it is one of my favorite activities:D

Since the conversation is going there...these Hungarian women sport some incredibly fine asses. It must be all of the walking. I am not sure, but the secretaries I observed yesterday in the downtown area, definitely put the sight into sightseeing. :D :D
