“Alex we are going to the Isle of Jersey and my home.”
Alex blinked in surprise at his answer. He was taking her to his home? Wouldn't this ruin his impersonation of a fop? Lord knew it would hurt his reputation and if her's hadn't already been ruined it would have surely ruined her. Turning her head once more to look back at him, her violet gaze was filled with concern for him.
"But...we're not married yet Paul. Won't this damage your reputation and the image you're trying to project? Word of what passed this morning will fly through society Paul, marrying me now would certainly limit the circles your allowed to travel in."
It occured to her that it put her in a fresh sort of danger as well. With the upheavel in France refugees would be making the crossing as quickly as they could and she had no doubt that more than a few would come through Jersey. While many of them would be aristocrats that didn't mean they would be kind and with her reputation already in tatters, and how quickly gossip spread, she had no doubt that more then one would think to try what Byron had tried.
Who knew what offers her father, or even Paul, would get for her now that her reputation was so fully beyond repair?
Still she kept such thuoghts to herself and tried not to dwell on them.
